| tagertale's Full Review: Gateway 700 XL PC Desktop |
I just recently graduated from a major university where you are constantly on the computer and had to face the worst thing any college grad who went to school out-of-state had to face...MOVING BACK HOME. Of course, I'm living out of a storage unit, which is where my computer is and let's just say, my parents haven't bought a new computer since before I went to college, that has viruses to no end and doesn't even have enough memory to run a DVD, just kidding... I think.
So as a gift to my parents for putting me through college, I decided to buy them a new PC! I shopped around for a while, and because it was New Years everything was on sale. I finally decided to go back to the company that I bought my college computer from...Gateway.
Being an unemployed, recent college grad meant I didn't want to spend too much on my parents, but enough so that I wouldn't go insane during the duration of my time living at home. So I choose the 700 Series because they were having a $100 rebate at the time which brought the price of the tower to $699! Great deal, right?
However I need to make is compatible with their old computer, so I added a Zip 750 (my parents had a Zip 100), and a CD-ROM drive to go along with the DVD/Burner ROM that was already part of the computer.
So it came down to this...I got:
-256MB RAM
-2.0 GHz Pentium 4
-38.2 GB Hard Drive (they call it 40GB)
-DVD/CDRW-ROM
-3.5 Floppy Drive
-Windows XP
-The Sims-Video Game
-Optical Mouse
-Multifunction Keyboard
-Gateway V.90 Voicemodem
-Speakers and more
Total= $699 tax
Add-ons:
-CD-ROM
-Zip 750
-Microsoft Office XP...This was the expensive part ($500-$600), but I felt it was necessary so that they could fix any glitches that may occur in the future.
Grand Total= around $1400
Granted, I didn't buy them some of the peripherals that may be necessary on a new buy, but they already had a 21 inch screen, a flat bed HP scanner, and a HP printer that work perfectly fine.
Overall, I very satisfied with my purchase and I know my parents are too. One warning: The Sims are addictive, but fun.
