| danwrite's Full Review: Gateway FX540S Desktop |
Seriously, this Gateway rocks. Has all the features I could want at this point, but plenty of room to expand for the future. Good graphics card, 2 great optical drives (Blu-Ray/HD/DVD-RW plus as 2nd DVD-RW), a digital/analog TV tuner, 3 GB memory, 500 GB hard drive. I've always felt Gateway makes the best computers (they work faster than most everybody else's out there) with the best components, and while you might pay a few dollars more on the surface, if you compare apples to apples you are actually paying less. For instance, compare the FX540S with the Dell XPS with all the same features, and Gateway comes out way less! So for my money, I always recommend Gateway. And in the Gateway line, the FX540 is their top of the line, but it won't break the bank at $1299, but currently they are offering discounts on that. Best of all, I've had no problems at all with VISTA as an operating system. Unpacked the computer, hooked up the connections, and within 10 minutes I was sailing away. Took fifteen minutes to connect 3 network printers (all of them old and NOT officially Vista certified) and they all worked; another few hours to load all my old programs, and this goes down as the easiest set-up for a new computer ever! Not a complaint in the world and I love this thing! I highly, highly recommend it!
