howlowcanugo's Full Review: Gears of War for Xbox 360
I got Gears of War Thanksgiving Weekend for free along with my Xbox 360.
First game I chose to play on it and I never regret choosing it.
Campaign Story
The Story is really interesting, with humans on one side and Locust on the other. (I wont spoil the story.)
The campaign has a choice of 3 difficulties, which makes it very replayable online with Xbox Live friends or offline with friends.
Weapons Longshot a sniper rifle with a scope
Boomshot: grenade launcher
Hammerburst: gun that fires short bursts
Lancer: assault-rifle-like gun that has chainsaw
Torque-bow: Bow-like weapon that fires an explosive arrow
Hammer of Dawn: weapon that calls down "a stream of Immulsion" from the sky
Magnum: Pistol that fires powerful bullets
Gnasher: Semi-Automatic pistol with powerful melee
I love how you can power your weapon's ammunition during reloading by pressing the reload button at the right time.
When done correctly, a bullet from a Longshot is one-hit down.
Multiplayer modes Assassination: Kill the Leader of the enemy and if you do, you become the leader of your team the next round
Warzone- Kill all enemies, downed enemies cannot stand back up by themselves
Annex- game mode like King of the Hill where you try to capture a point where it follows warzone rules
Execution- Kill all enemies, Downed enemies can quickly stand back up by themselves unless you chainsaw or curbstop them
I personally enjoy playing either Warzone and Annex.
Online con: Host Advantage
What I don't like is that there is a advantage for the person hosting the game.
Since the host is the host, he experiences no bullet lag when the other players in the game do.
If there were dedicated servers, there would be no such thing as the host advantage.
Frequent Updates
First major update added the Annex game mode.
Second major update added new achievements worth 250 points that went with the new map pack.
Too bad there still are glitches and some cheating.
Downloadable Content: Map Packs
The first map pack was free and provided 2 new maps.
The second map pack isn't free and adds 2 more new maps, though, it will be free in September.
