Please bear with me that I am sticking to my feedback after use and that I am not providing any user's manual type of information that you can possibly find from the manufacturer's site.
Your decision of whether to select this item I think depends on what you value most in answering machines. If the low price or basic functions such as day stamps and signals for incoming messages count, this may be enough, but aren't we missing the most important issue here; sound quality? I am not exaggerating that I have had serious difficulties in hearing messages. All I got from this machine is the ability to recognize who I think left messages. I absolutely cannot tell what callers are talking in 80% of messages. I do not understand where the loud hamming noise is coming from, but it does not seem to be related to telephone jacks or house locations, since I moved several times while I was using this machine, and I always had the same problem. My older tape machine sounded much better. It's a pure surprise that the product passed the standard! I would be ashamed if I were the manufacturer.
One more surprise is that this machine suddenly changes the answering programming to the default setting and erases my voice often. It seems that I have to regularly re-record my answering - possibly within a few weeks. I didn't realize it was not my voice who was answering phones until friends told me that they thought they called wrong numbers!
Plus sides are easy programming and the ability to erase messages without hearing them until the end, but I just learned a hard lesson that good (I don't expect "excellent," good is enough) sound quality was the priority. To find out how bad it is, I would suggest you going to a retail store where you can actually operate the machine. Record your message and play back several times to hear how the recording sounds. You will likely to notice back noise easily - and keep in mind that incoming messages would sound much much much worse than this!!!
It has caused so much inconvenience and grief in my life, and I would feel better if I had a little more pricey but better machine. I'm going shopping.
