Pros: Energy Efficient, cools effectively
Cons: Flimsy buzzing grill, difficult installation, side curtain guides fall out.
The Bottom Line: An energy efficient air conditioner that is poorly designed so that the front grill vibrates and resonates LOUDLY when the compressor cycles on for windows installations.

| jgoldenboy's Full Review: General Electric Deluxe AGM08LJ Thru-Wall/Window A... |
First, this unit is not exclusively "through the wall". It is a window unit that can be adapted for thru the wall installation. I installed it in a window.
I purchased this GE air conditioner due to the fact that a major consumer magazine rated it "excellent" in noise.
I brought the unit home. Installing it takes about three hours. You have to remove four screws (two of which are shipping screws and do not need to be reinstalled) slide out the chassis, attach the side curtains and a piece to the top, attach two leveling feet, install the frame in the window, slide the chassis back into place, and attach the front grill. The main problem that I encountered early in the installation is that the plastic "Guide rails" for the side curtains don't stay snapped into place. Once I installed the unit, leveled it etc. and turned it on, it was NOT quiet. The front grill buzzed loudly! The store that I purchased it at swapped the grill with the floor model but the problem persists. Frankly, the front grill is just too flimsy and thin. When the compressor goes on, the grill starts vibrating and resonating and this unit really makes a heck of a lot of noise. Also, during a recent rainstorm, one of the "guide rails" for the side curtains fell out. Replacing it requires removing three screws, sliding the chassis of the A/C out (and dripping water all over the place, attaching the rail, and reinstalling the chassis.
I'm sorry I didn't get the Haier at my local Liquidators and saved $100.00. Yes this GE is 10.8 in EER vs. 9.8 but the aggravation I've had with this unit isn't worth the electric savings. My dealer told me this unit was similar to the Panasonic's, who he said, no longer manufacturer air conditioners. Don't believe it is similar. My 9,800 BTU Panasonic's have substantial grills that don't vibrate. This unit has a grill that is a piece of junk.
For those who still are considering this unit be advised that even with "Circulare" turned on, the unit directly air primarily straight out.
