If you wear contact lenses then you know that you have to have at least one or two cases to store them in. I have a couple cute ones that I use when I travel but when I am home I usually use a small contact lens kit that one of the flip top cases inside it. I can use the small sample sized bottles of cleaner and saline solution for the kit so if I need to do an overnighter I can grab the kit and be on my merry way. When two of the boys started wearing contact lenses they immediately started picking out the ten dollar plastic cases; I shook my head and laughed. They were going to do the same thing I did when I first started wearing contacts. They were going to get the expensive cases then end up losing one of the screw off lids; I've lost many to the toilet, down the heating ducts and a few that were accidentally kicked under the tub. If you do manage to retrieve them you never really feel all that safe using it again no matter how many times you clean it or disinfect it.
You can use these to store hard or soft lenses in but I only wear soft ones so I have no idea if the hard lenses are more difficult to get out of this one. I like the fact that the wells on this case are deep so you can add a lot of solution to them if you need to store them for a week or two. Getting the lids closed properly is the key to making sure that the solution doesn't evaporate or leak. When you press down on the lid you should hear a little bit of a pop and I might also warn you, some of the saline might splatter if you have it filled to the top or get some on the sides of the lid. I've never had the lids separate from the base or the tabs that connect the two rip but somehow both of the boys that wear them managed to trash them in this manner. I think they did it on purpose to try and get new cases.
Since these are larger than regular contact lenses cases they are generally easier to handle. This is a really nice feature when your hands are wet and as you all know, you should wash your hands before you attempt to insert or remove your contact lenses. The flip off lids are nice for people who have trouble using the screw tops versions; they are easier to open, close and fill with solution and you never have to worry about putting the incorrect lens in or getting them mixed up. The plastic used for this case is a little on the thin side and it isn't as strong as the hard plastic ones with screw off lids; they are not designed for high heat or heat disinfection. As odd as it sounds I clean my hard cases by putting them in hot, almost boiling water for about a minute then remove them using tongs and allow them to air dry upside down on a clean, lint free towel. Needless to say, this isn't something you are going to want to do with this case because it will melt or at the very least warp and you won't get a good seal on the lids.
These are what I would consider a disposable type of contact lens case; if you happen to trash it or leave it somewhere it isn't a big loss. Well, if the contact lenses are still in the case then it can be a loss but, well, you know what I mean. I told the boys that as soon as they could prove that they were responsible enough to not lose their contacts or let them sit in the case without drying out they could each get a regular 'designer' plastic case but so far that hasn't happened. The tops of the lids have the "L" and "R" on them but in all honesty that is pretty straightforward because there is no way to get the left or right side mixed up.
I would recommend this case to anyone that wants something that is easy to use, will last about six months before it needs to be replaced and is easy to clean. These will fit inside most standard sized contact lens kits and they are great for traveling or if you need to store your lenses in something for a week or two. You can get them at most pharmacies and drug stores as well as at Wal-Mart and Target, the latter of the two having the best prices. You can also call your optometrist to see if they can give you a few. These are also the same types of cases that are given to new patients who are getting a set up kit with their first pair of contact lenses. I have nothing but great things to say about these types of cases and all the ones that I have owned have been problem free to use and care for.
As always, thanks for the visit
