I geuss in this day and age where consumers need to be warned about what goes into their food, I can assure you that this particular cereal, Honey Nut Cheerios, is still recommended as safe, dye-free, nutritious and very inexpensive. General Mills, a distributor that still has general offices in good ole Minneapolis Minnesota, seems to be equally concerned about adding artificial flavorings or colorings to their healthy line of breakfast foods. This one comes up with zero of either.

The touch of honey and the cute little bee on the front of the box which is 100% made from recycled paperboard is an excellent reminder that bees are our friends and they help sweeten naturally that so called 'yucky health food'. Despite the allergic reaction I would get from a bee-sting, I am grateful they seek nectar and produce honey because my cheerios are yummy ! Well, General Mill’s Cheerios are yummy.
Anyway, as a valuable source of fiber approximately .75 grams per serving, protein, energy and the vitamins and minerals which help reduce cholesterol, these little O’s are a great way to begin your day. My day starts around noon, as a writer and online marketer I work till wee hours of the morning. When I wake, I want breakfast food no matter what time it is. This is versatile for any time of day as I splash some cold organic milk and throw in some strawberries with a steaming cup of java. I am ready to go.
It is not over-powering with sweetness but this whole grain oat cereal uses natural almond flavor and of course the succulent honey. In addition to the taste it takes well to milk and only gets really soggy after a half hour--but who waits that long? Me and I am thrilled because my sensitive teeth approach the o’s with vigor, I can still appreciate a slight crunch.
Ingredients from side panel:
Whole grain oats which includes the bran of the oat grain; Sugar; modified corn starch; Honey; Brown Sugar syrup; Salt; Tripotassium phosphate; Rice Bran and/or Canola Oil; Natural Almond Flavor; and Wheat Flour. Tocopherols mixed together, this is Vitamin E either liquid or dried, are added for preserving the freshness of this oat cereal.
The package is sold by weight not by volume therefore settling may occur upon distribution yet I still get nearly the 12 servings GM claims this box can provide. I say that depends on the person who is eating the cereal ! Anyway weighing in at 12.25 ounces or 347 grams you will yield approximately 10+ good sized bowls roughly ¾ cup each or 28 grams.
In exactly 6 grams of a Honey Nut Cheerios product serving you will get calories, about 110 of them. Not too bad for those of us trying to keep weight on and balanced proportionately. Not too difficult to burn off from those that are active, which the cereal is really good for--giving one energy !

Cholesterol= 0milligrams or 0% with ½ cup skim milk= 1% *Sodium= 190milligrams or 8% with ½ cup skim mil= 11% **Potassium= 115milligrams or 3% with ½ cup skim milk= 9% Total Carbohydrates= 22grams or 7% with ½ cup skim milk= 9% Dietary Fiber= 2grams or 8% with ½ cup skim milk= 8% Soluble Fiber less than 1gram Sugars= 9grams Other Carbohydrates= 11grams Protein= 3grams
Magnesium of only 8% is the lowest source mineral in this cereal; while Vitamin A, C, D= 10% of PDV (percent daily values) based on 2,000 calorie diet. However, when ½ cup of skim milk is added the PDV increases to 15%. Calcium and Phosphorous also offer 10% of PDV and when ½ cup skim milk added it increases the PDV to 15%; while Iron, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12 and Zinc offer 25% PDV adding ½ cup of skim milk increases to another 5% of Thiamin and Zinc.
Riboflavin and Vitamin B12 increase by 10% while Iron, Niacin and Vitamin B6 don’t increase the PDV. The wonderful thing for the pregnant ladies out here looking for something healthy is that there is 50% Folic acid in here which unfortunately does not increase with a ½ cup of skim milk added.
Overall, the cereal is a benefit in having when a fried egg or greasy hash browns around the corner will never equally or safely satisfy the body’s need for nutritional value. I highly recommend having a box or two around because if you are out of milk, regular or organic, you can still snack on these all day long.
I almost forgot the part about the cool neat stuff you get at the bottom of the Honey Nut Cheerios cereal box, as a reward for being a good kid tolerating ‘health-food’. I got the Madagascar movie Wacky Slider toy car. I keep it on my computer desk and in between writing Epinion reviews, I vroom vroom it back and fourth acting like a kid again so the feel of a product kids will enjoy, can shine youthfully through. Kids love em and adults are just simply grateful.
This big kid is happy are you ? So what are you waiting for at $2.85 instead of $5.oo, your local grocer should serve you right up !
