General Mills Kix 13oz- Small crunchy balls, big taste
Written: Jan 24 '08 (Updated Jan 25 '08)
Pros:It's yummy and healthy.
Cons:none
The Bottom Line: Kid tested, mother approved. What more can you ask for in a cereal?
Kid tested, mother approved, that is Kix 13oz slogan. In our household, it is more like kid tested, mother eats it.
I began buying organic cereals for my daughter and I thought that they were healthier for us, but we would finish a box in less than a week. They did not provide enough in one small box. So, I switched to Kix 13oz a little while ago.
They are the first puffed cereal to come out in 1937 and is made by the General Mills Company, who also make Cheerios. They invented the Puffing gun which heated up grains such as rice until they puffed up into a little ball.
Kix 13oz has 25% of the daily recommended amount of thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, and zinc. It has 50% of folic acid and 10% of the recommended amount of Vitamin A, C, and D. It also has 15% of Calcium and a surprising 45% of iron.
There are 110 calories in each serving size without milk, which is 1 ¼ cup. There is zero cholesterol and trans fat. There are 210 mg of sodium and 25 total grams of carbohydrates.
Kix 13oz tastes crunchy in milk or dry and slightly sweet. They stay crispier in milk than regular flakes do. They taste like little corn puffs.
What I like about Kix 13oz is that there are no added colors, no added flavors, and no artificial preservatives. So, it is just as healthy as the organic puffed cereals. I love that my four year old loves them, and they are healthy. They are filling enough so that by lunchtime Im not starving. In addition, all the General Mills cereals are made with whole grains.
Whole grains work together to help reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers.
My daughter loves to eat them dry while she is watching her show at night and I put them in a baggy and take them with us when we go out in case she needs a quick snack.
Check out the General Mills website for complete nutritional information and some recipes http://www.generalmills.com/corporate/brands/brand.aspx?catID=50
Kix also comes in Berry Berry flavor. Kix also comes in a convenient 5/8 oz size plastic bowl and all you have to do is add milk.
Kix is available at any grocery store.
This is my 24th entry in the The best LITTLE write off ever
