Corn pops and is fresh
Cons: Artificial ingredients.
The Bottom Line: Because I am more health conscious now I do not recommend the purchase of this product because of the artificial ingredients it contains.

Before I became health conscious, I purchased General Mills Pop Secret Popcorn, Movie Theater Butter Flavor, every time that I found a good sale and was able to use my coupons on that sale. Consequently it was very likely that we would have at least 10 to 15 boxes of this popcorn in the pantry at a time.
My sons would come home from school and automatically pop a bag in the microwave sending the entire house into an aroma of butter which actually smelled BETTER than the movie butter popcorn at our local theater. Thus, it was very difficult to keep this item stocked enough.
What’s Great About This Product
What has always impressed me about Pop Secret Popcorn is that the product pops without many unpopped kernels. Also, the popcorn TASTED better than the greasy, old “oil” smelling popcorn at the movie theater. We wished that they would have this popcorn there instead of whatever they pop!
And the popcorn stayed fresh. When it did stay in the pantry past the expiration date, that didn’t present a problem. Even then the corn popped well and tasted great. The popcorn lasts well in the pantry even for a few weeks after the expiration date.
Why I Don’t Purchase This Anymore
However, there are several reasons why I do not purchase General Mills Pop Secret Popcorn, Movie Theater Butter anymore.
First is that I found out that I have food sensitivities to corn and numerous other ingredients/foods. I’m also allergic to many artificial ingredients and actually this popcorn that I loved so much, I can’t even stand now.
I really believe that the problem with the smell now results from the artificial ingredients that are used within this product. Now that I have my youngest son and I on a allergy free diet most of the time, this product just does not appeal to my son anymore.
So what we loved to eat, neither of us can even tolerate now. My son still eats popcorn though – just only that which has no artificial ingredients, and rarely at the movie now.
Should you buy this product?
That’s a really good question – I can’t answer it.
However, I have great concerns about this and other microwave popcorn products that “burst” the flavor/smell at you similar to the scene in the Over the Hedge movie where R.J. opens a bag of flavored tortilla chips for the woodland creatures and it’s like an explosion of dust and “odor” enhancing chemicals to entice you to eat the product.
Somehow this really concerns me, and I see now through the introduction of many more organic and natural products – it is concerning to many others too.
So, my recommendation to you is this – If you have no concerns about the ingredients in food, and base your appeal on taste and so forth, then this is a high quality product for you to buy in order of value and taste. However, if you are concerned about your health, I would highly recommend that you do NOT purchase this product because of the artificial ingredients involved.
