The Bottom Line: Alltel CS are for the most part extremely helpful. They most definitely are a reason to get Alltel Wireless Service.

Alltel Wireless has a reputation of being one of the most customer conscious wireless companies of the "big boys". While this is a great reputation to have, it also has its downfalls, because, everyone sets you at a higher standard than the others around you. Alltel has done a pretty good job of upholding this trait that makes a company a winner in the consumer's eyes. Here are my experiences with Alltel's customer service.
General Customer Support
Overall, the general customer support that you will receive
when you just call in and press "0" will be great. Most of the time, these representatives help you with general things such as plan changes, phone activations, and various questions about your service. The few times that I have ever had to speak with those representatives, they have been quite helpful and pleasant.
Tech Support
Now, most of the time a company's technical support can either make or break them. In Alltel's case, I'd say that it is definitely an area that needs work on. Now, I may be in the minority here, but usually when I call in about a technical problem with either my phone or my service, I get the standard "take the battery out", "reset the phone", and "it will most likely be resolved in 24 hours" that most wireless companies give as advice.
However, after these steps they usually have you file a "trouble ticket". I've filed three, and not one of them have been followed up on. Now, I'm not sure exactly what Alltel's Tech Support is doing with their time, but, from what I can see, not much of anything.
Retentions & Billing
Alltel is known for a few "billing system quirks" from time to time, and I've been a victim of just about every one of them I'd say. Yet, every time I call in to have it fixed, it is almost always credited with no hassle and I am usually given some kind of apology in the way of an extra credit off of my bill, a free game download in Axcess, or something else of the like.
Overall, I'd say that Alltel's Customer Service is definitely above most other wireless companies. I just hope that it stays that way as they continue to grow and become a more national carrier.
P.S. - The wait times are usually very short, and I almost never have to wait. 1 for Alltel!
