Pros: rollover minutes, 1 year expiration on a $100 prepaid credit
Cons: hidden charges, unhelpful customer service, minutes equaling send to end time instead of talk time
The Bottom Line: I would not use Cingular. I've just been very frustrated with them.

| dln6874's Full Review: General Reviews of Cingular Wireless Customer Serv... |
I must admit they have some decent plans, but I just remember having had to make many frustrated calls to their customer service for various issues. First time was to get an erroneous charge removed, the second time was for a voicemail notification that wasn't working properly, and other times for various issues. The voicemail issue took several phone calls/follow-ups to resolve. In most other cases, the customer service reps just didn't give a damn that we were getting charged for things that we didn't know we would get charged. Examples, when I cancelled my service to be overseas and re-subscribed later again to Cingular, I was charged a reconnect fee. The sales rep didn't tell me and I got no apology from the service rep. They also charge when you reactivate an inactive account (but you also pay a pretty pricey monthly fee to keep your number.) I was also pretty annoyed that if you are out of your local network coverage, the calls could get reported months later, thereby potentially causing you to go over your minutes in that later month unknowingly to you. This pretty much forced me into getting a plan that included rollover minutes. To top it all off, I switched to a prepaid plan because I was going to be overseas majority of the time. I was only roped into using Cingular because they offered a $100 plan that allowed you to keep your credits for a full-year (as opposed to, say 3 months). They charge either 10 or 25 cents per minute, depending non your prepaid plan. Well, turns out they count the minutes from the time you send to time you end. Not the actual talk time. So if someone doesn't pick up for many seconds, or if you forget to end a call, you could be paying for extra minutes. This wasn't in any of their fliers or adverts and the sales rep sure didn't give me any heads up on this. Any person accustomed to a regular plan would assume minutes = talk time. This 'start to end' time is the most ridiculous thing I've heard with regards to cell phone plans. In any case, I am just really sick of hearing 'well, there's nothing I can do about that' from their customer service. Oh, I also forgot that I tried to get my phone unlocked for use overseas after my contract ended with them. First rep I talked to said it was 'impossible'. After couple more calls, I finally found someone who would put in the request to give me an unlock code. After I got my phone unlocked, I couldn't even use it in Europe!! I specifically asked for a GSM phone so I could use it overseas and the phone is supposed to support it. But it looks like Motorola had sold some faulty models (v60gi) but Cingular never bothered to inform me of that.
