Finally -- a home for this review! Thanks to Mary Tara, Suzanne, and everyone else involved in getting the Gentle Naturals line added to the database.
One baby boy I care for in my day care has terrible eczema. Sometimes, he itches so bad that he screams simply because it bothers him so much. We have tried lots of creams and ointments on him -- OTC, prescription, home remedies. Nothing seemed to work until I found Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream by the makers of Baby Orajel.
I found this stuff one day while checking out a local pharmacy for something new to try on baby boy. The pharmacist said to try this. It was expensive -- around $8.00 for a 4 ounce tube, but poor baby really suffers sometimes. He has been to the doctor, and does have some prescription things, but they can only be used in a limited amount. Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream can be used over as often as you need to soothe baby.
This stuff works. From the first time I applied it to the red, rashy portions of his skin affected by the eczema, he stopped scratching and pulling at his skin. Not only does Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream stop baby boys itching, but after using for a few days, the eczema began disappearing. One important thing to understand is that baby boy has really bad eczema. We affectionately call him Lizard Boy because his skin is so rough and scaly. If his nails arent routinely clipped as short as they can be clipped, he scratches so much that he bleeds, then has scabby patches on top of his already red scaly skin.
The product packaging states:
Gentle Naturals Eczema Cream is specifically formulated to form a protective emollient layer to lock in your babys natural moisture. Natural calendula and jojoba oil soften and add extra moisture. Aloe and vitamins A,D, and E help nurture skin and help irritated skin to heal. Gentle Naturals also contains lavender and chamomile to help calm and relax your baby.
What I know from using this cream:
This product helps! Not only does it stop the often severe itching, but it really does soothe calm baby. Almost every time I put this on baby boy, he falls asleep shortly after. The amount of scratching and skin pulling has dramatically decreased. One of the pluses of this product over some of the others that I might have chosen is that it can be used as often as necessary. I have had the tube for about two weeks and it is about half empty.
I have a son with very sensitive skin. I have used this product on him after his bath and he says that it helps his skin to feel better. A double plus for me when I can use something for more than one child. He doesnt like the smell very much though. I think that is because he says it makes him feel like baby boy and since he is seven -- well, we just couldnt be compared to a baby, could we?
Other than the expense, the only negative I have about this product is that if you let it get too warm, it tends to separate. Then you get this liquid yuck when you try to get some cream out. I just rub that on baby too. The product packaging does say to store between 59 and 86 degrees.
If you have a baby suffering from eczema, then Gentle Naturals Baby Eczema Cream is worth a try. It works for us. One final note, while I would never take this internally, it does state specially for external use only.
