Pros:Great tasting and nutritious, small portions

Cons:Can get a bit expensive if you don't use coupons

The Bottom Line: Gerber 1st Foods provides your baby with the nutrients they need and you with fond memories to cherish forever.

Iíll admit I couldnít wait to start feeding my daughter Jordan Gerber 1st Foods. As recommended, I started her on rice cereal first and after two weeks of that I got out a jar of green beans and we had a joyous time. Jordan got more on her face then in her mouth, but the moment is still etched in my mind and I will cherish her messy green bean face forever. I chose Gerber baby foods because I was a Gerber baby myself and Gerber is a popular and trusted name when it comes to meeting babiesí needs in nutrition.

Gerber 1st Foods are available in 5 fruits and 6 vegetables. Fruits include applesauce, prunes, bananas, peaches and pears. All of the 1st fruits, except prunes, are fortified to meet 45% of the daily value of Vitamin C your child needs. Vegetables include peas, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash and green beans.

Gerber 1st Foods are made from one-ingredient fruits and vegetables. By giving them one-ingredient foods you are providing them with new tastes to get used to before moving on to foods with combined ingredients. 1st Foods are pureed and made thinner so baby can learn how to take food from a spoon. This also helps a baby just learning to eat solids move the food to the back of their throats without choking and spitting it out.

The fruits and vegetables used to make 1st foods are 100% natural ingredients, highly nutritious, with no added sugars or preservatives. 1st Foods provides your baby with calcium, iron, zinc, protein, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, potassium, and vitamin B6, A and C in each delicious bite. Gerber used nature lock when making their baby foods. What is nature lock you ask? Nature Lock is a method using a gentle method of cooking baby food with less heat. This locks in more of the flavor intended and giving the foods a fresh picked taste.

It is suggested you introduce vegetables first, and then move on to fruits, this way your baby doesnít get used to a sweet taste and refuse to eat vegetables. Give each new food for 3 to 5 days to check on allergic reactions. If your baby doesnít seem interested donít push it and try again later. They already grow up fast enough as it is, donít rush into feeding them if theyíre not ready.

Gerber 1st Foods come in 2.5-ounce jars. The small portions are great for babiesí just starting on baby foods and there is less food going to waste. If my daughter Jordan didnít eat a whole jar I put the rest in plastic bowl and stored it in the refrigerator for later.

Jordan loved Gerber 1st Foods and really seemed to enjoy her feedings, especially when she got more in her mouth then on her face. Itís a wonderful feeling when you get to see your baby try something besides formula or breast milk for the first time. Itís also a great bonding experience. I know I loved feeding Gerber 1st Foods to Jordan and watching her many funny faces when she tried each new food for the first time. Jordanís favorites were applesauce and green beans.

You can buy Gerber 1st Foods just about any grocery store. I usually bought the 1st Foods at Meijerís for .39 cents a jar. Gerber foods are also on sale a lot in my area, usually selling at 4 for $1.00. Gerber is also good at sending coupons in the mail (go to www.gerber.com) to sign up for their mailing list. I also find Gerber coupons in Sundayís paper almost monthly.

Gerber also has a keepsake offer going on. You can save your UPC codes to get keepsakes for your little one. They include, educator or feeding spoons with your babyís name engraved, a training cup, frame, charm bracelet with 7 charms. Iíve gotten Jordan one of each thing so far. The items are durable and beautifully made and wonderful items to cherish forever.

I recommend Gerber 1st Foods to all new parents with babies nearing the solid foods stage. Itís a great way to spend bonding time with your baby and watch them go through a new milestone right before your eyes. Gerber 1st Foods can get expensive, but the price is right for a great tasting baby food (Yes, I tasted them before I fed them to my daughter). You can buy Gerber foods almost anywhere and they provide your baby with the nutrients they need to grow up strong and healthy.

Babies grow up so fast, so cherish these special times. Before you know it they will want to feed themselves and youíll want the days of feeding them back. Jordan is now a happy 15 month old.
