My twins, Charles and Catherine, absolutely love to eat - just like their mommy. They have no problems trying new foods, but they absolutely love their applesauce.
I first introduced the babies to apples with Earth's Best, which they were okay with. When I swapped over to Beech Nut, the babies had a much better reaction: they were visibly getting excited and opening their mouth for more. After a month of first foods, I was told by my pediatrician to move them on to stage 2 foods. My mother hit the grocery store, and came back with a variety of different Gerber 2nd Foods For Baby.
The very first thing I noticed about this baby food is that it is not in a glass jar. Instead, it is in a much more convenient and reusable plastic container. The container is clear and has a plastic cover, in case baby doesn't finish and you want to save the rest for later. There is also a foil seal between the babyfood and the cover, so you know it is fresh. Considering I have dropped and shattered babyfood jars on my mom's hard tile floor, I much prefer the plastic containers offered by Gerber. Each container holds 3.5 oz. and comes in a package of two.
As I do with all of the food that I feed my babies, I tasted the Gerber 2nd Foods For Baby Applesauce before feeding it to them. Guess what it tasted like? Applesauce. Pure, familiar, tasty applesauce. No extra sugar, no additives, nothing. Just pure applesauce. Yum. The only difference between this applesauce and the regular applesauce that you can buy for the whole family in a big glass jar is the fact that it is a thinner texture. This applesauce is pureed especially for baby. It has a little thicker consistancy than Gerber 1st Foods For Baby, but is thinner than the Gerber 3rd Foods For Baby. The difference between the stages is simply in the consistency of the food: The foods get thicker as the numbers go up so that baby doesn't choke or gag.
It really isn't a good idea to give your baby regular applesauce, unless you run it through the food processor to make sure it is smooth enough so that they don't gag. The consistency of "regular" applesauce is a bit too coarse for baby and can cause swallowing problems. That is why the Gerber 2nd Foods For Baby Applesauce is so perfect!
The Gerber 2nd Foods For Baby Applesauce runs about $1 for a package of two. You can constantly find coupons for Gerber products. Considering that other baby foods run anywhere from $0.30 - $0.99 per jar, $1 really isn't a lot to spend on a terrific product that has a reusable container.
Try it! not only will you like it, but your baby will, too.
