I have a beef with Gerber - no pun intended. While some of their 3rd foods are indeed chunky and thick, others are no thicker than the 2nd stage foods. For example, the 3rd foods sweet potatoes, carrots, and peas are exactly the same texture as the 2nd foods (the same as the 1st foods, for that matter). What bothers me is that Gerber sent out a flyer indicating how the 3rd foods would help your baby make the transition to chunky foods, and that you should buy a jar of the same type of 2nd and 3rd foods, and go back and forth, helping your baby learn about the chunkier version. Well, I did this, and found to my dismay that most of the 2nd and 3rd foods were exactly the same texture! What is Gerber trying to pull off?!?
The only plus I can see of the 3rd foods is that you get more per jar, so they are more economical. But I am angry about the implication by Gerber that the 3rd foods will "help" your child make the transition to solid foods. This just isn't true for about 50% of the items they sell!
