I completely agree with your comment - all the problems you had I also had. I ended up bringing it back for a refund and am going out tomorrow to purchase an avent pump since I've heard pretty much nothing but good things about that one, and pretty much all the reviews here on that pump give it five stars.

....breastpumps like this Gerber Battery or Electric Breast Pump Kit should be banned!! Especially when they sabotage a woman's effort to continue nursing.
I had the more expensive Medela Pump In Style and the higher cost was definitely worth it overall, considering it helped me to breastfeed my son for nine months even when I went back to work part time.
Sometimes we learn things the HARD way :-(
