| mommykd's Full Review: Gerber Finger Foods Veggie Puffs |
If my 8 month old son could express feelings with words, this was the expression on his face after his sister and cousins devoured 1/2 of a container of his Gerber Finger Foods Veggie Puffs. Last week we went to a July 4th celebration at a local park to watch fireworks, and I took along a container of Veggie Puffs. My 8 year old niece, 5 year old nephew, and 3 1/2 year old daughter enjoyed them just as much as the baby did. In fact, I had to remind them that they had other snacks and he didn't, so don't eat them all! My sister has had quite a struggle getting my nephew to eat any vegetables. Veggie Puffs are intended to be for babies learning to self feed, but they might just help you get an older child to try a healthy snack, too!
Gerber Finger Foods Puffs are available as Veggie Puffs Sweet Potato, and Fruit Puffs Strawberry Apple and Banana They come in a 1.48 ounce container that is safety sealed and wrapped with a re-sealable blue plastic lid. You can find these in the baby food aisle of your grocery store.
From the label:
Puffed grains with real sweet potato. Melts in baby's mouth. Perfect first finger food. Unique, fun shape that's just right for babies to pick up. Made with real sweet potatoes. Light and airy texture dissolves easily. Portable package great for at home and on the go. Good source of iron and zinc. Your baby is ready for fruit puffs when he can crawl on hands and knees, eat thicker, lumpier foods, use jaws to mash food with gums, and hold small foods between thumb and first finger.
Ingredients:
Rice flour, oat flour, wheat flour, wheat starch, sugar, sweet potato powder, tri and diacalcium phosphate, natural flavor, tocopherols (Vitamin E), soy lecithin, soybean oil, zinc sulfate, and electrolytic iron.
Another fun snack:
Just like with the Banana Fruit Puffs, my son loves to snack on the Veggie Puffs. I usually give him the Fruit Puffs as a morning snack and the Veggie Puffs as an afternoon snack or before or after meals to keep him entertained. The Veggie Puffs are also star shaped and are orange in color. At 8 months old, and only having 4 teeth, he has no problems picking these puffs up by himself, putting them in his mouth and eating them. They also make a great snack for keeping on hand in the diaper bag when we are on the go.
Overall:
As with the Fruit Puffs, I think these are a great snack for little kids, and big kids, too! Although they do cost a bit much to "waste" on bigger kids. Serving size is about 80 pieces, and based on that portion there are approximately 6 servings per container. Obviously, with a baby, you'll get more than 6 servings!
Oh yeah! Unlike the Banana Fruit Puffs, these seemed to have a pleasant, sweet taste to them. (Yes, Mommy snacked on them, too!)
My only complaint with these is that the orange color does stain a little, but I have been able to easily wipe it off the highchair tray, baby's face, and it comes out of clothing when washed.
