Let's face it, Cheetos Puffs are awesome. They're cheesy, they're slightly salty, they're just downright tasty. They're also not exactly the healthiest thing for us to eat - especially a toddler. Addison had a passion for Cheetos Puffs, so much so that I had to find an alternative for her to snack on. Thankfully Gerber had the solution in Gerber Graduates Lil' Crunchies, Mild Cheddar.
Cost & Location
I typically purchase our 1.48 OZ can of Gerber Graduates Lil' Crunchies at my local Wal-Mart Supercenter or Kroger. The prices vary just a bit, between $2.50 and $2.97. You can find this product almost anywhere Gerber Graduates products are sold.
Cheetos For The Wee Ones
I was thrilled when I came across Gerber Graduates Lil' Crunchies, Mild Cheddar. I silently prayed that Addison would be just as tickled as I was with her new snack. Thankfully she was!
Gerber Graduates Lil' Crunchies, Mild Cheddar come in a can, which reminds me of the cheese balls can from my childhood, which by the way, I loved, but, I digress. The Lil' Crunchies are mini versions of Cheetos Puffs. They range from about an inch to an inch and a half long in size, the perfect size for chubby little hands. They are also a lot lighter than Cheetos Puffs, and dissolve much easier.
What I really love about Lil' Crunchies is that they are made with 100% whole grain corn and they have 30% less sodium than the average cheese snack. While Lil' Crunchies don't necessarily pack a powerful nutritional punch, they are much better than the alternative. Fourteen pieces of Lil' Crunchies equals 1.5g of fat , 35 calories and 50mg of Sodium.
Addison Loves Them
My sweet Addison has a love for all things cheesy, and thankfully Lil' Crunchies meets her high expectations. Trust me when I say that she won't fall for just any old cheese product, they must meet the standard. Addison loves her Lil' Crunchies so much that I had to start putting them on top of the refrigerator, out of her reach. While the can is cute and all, the lid is very easy for a little one to open. She would pry it off with her little fingers, and, if that didn't work, she'd peel it off with her teeth. So, up they went!
I absolutely love the size of Lil' Crunchies, they are perfect for her to pick up, and they dissolve much easier than Cheetos Puffs. The light and airy texture is pleasing to her and she's never objected to it. As I always do, I gave Lil' Crunchies a taste test of my own and they are definitely tasty. Granted they aren't as tasty as Cheetos Puffs, but, they are pleasing nonetheless. I can definitely taste the difference in the saltiness which is a huge plus for me. These aren't nearly as salty as Cheetos Puffs!
As much as Addison loves her Lil' Crunchies I still limit her intake of them. While they are 100% whole grain corn and contain less sodium than the average, they still aren't necessarily the healthiest thing I can give her. She gets a few with lunch and if I'm running errands I'll bring a handful with me. If left to her own devices, she would of course, carry the can with her all day!
Overall
While they aren't necessarily a nutritional powerhouse, Gerber Graduates Lil' Crunchies are an excellent alternative to Addison's favorite Cheetos Puffs. If you have a cheese lover in your family, give these a try!
