My mom purchased the 3 pack of Gerber Graduatates Tossables Sippy Cups for my 2 year old daughter. The cups are very cute and Olivia loves the animals, but I am not pleased with the performance.
About the Product
This set of cups contains 3 sippy cups. Each cup is a different color and has a different animal face on the lid. The orange cup features a monkey, the yellow cup has a cat, and the blue cup has a hippo. They really are very cute to look at.
The cups are called "tossables", but they are definitely different than the disposable sippy cups I have used in the past. These cups are thicker plastic and are very sturdy. Other than the shape of the cups, there is really nothing that would imply that they are meant to be tossed.
The cups are sold in places like Target and Walmart and retail for around $4 which is very afforable compared to the price of other sippy cups. Each cup holds 10 oz.
My Experience Olivia loves these cups, especially the hippo cup, and will request them often over other sippy cups in the cupboard. She can hold the cup easily in her small hands and she likes the animal faces.
I, on the other hand, am becoming less and less pleased with these cups. When we first started using them, I noticed that they were not leak proof. Unlike other sippy cups, there is no leak proof valve that fits into the underside of the lid. If the cup is tipped over, it will leak. Olivia is a little older and generally will leave the cup standing up on a table so leaking hasn't been a major issue. However, if I had a younger baby that would leave the cup tipped over on the floor, there is no way I would use these. It leaks and drips very easily.
The other problem I have with the cups is that the lid isn't easy to screw on correctly. It doesn't fit as securely as other cups and it's easy to have the lid go on crooked. I have put the lid on and passed the cup to Olivia only to have her take a drink and have juice come pouring out of the cup all over her because I failed to line the lid up correctly when I put it on. When I get her juice in the morning, I usually am in a hurry so I don't want to have to spend extra time wrestling with the lid of a sippy cup.
Olivia still continues to use these on occasion, but I've noticed more leakage from them as time as gone on. I have more or less stopped using them because of this. I suppose this is where the tossable part comes in. They really are not designed for long term use.
I do think these cups are cute and my daughter likes them, but I need a sippy cup to not leak, especially when we are on the go. I have no intention of replacing these cups.
