| choices399's Full Review: Gerber Nuk Classic Pacifier |
When my three year old was born, I vowed never to stick a hideous looking "plug" into his mouth. My nurse in the recovery room, however, did not respect my wishes, and when my son came back from a check-up with a rubber-pacifier you only find in hospitals, I was furious! But, since I paid for it (and actually OVER paid for it!), I brought it home with me and stuck it in the drawer of baby supplies.
As it turned out, I was glad I had it.
Sometimes your views completely change when you have the experience to base your opinions on! My son ended up loving his pacifier, and would rarely go anywhere without it. It was his "bankie", his "lovie" and his "spare nipple" all in one - and he went through them almost as fast as his diapers!
The Nuk design is great because it has an easy-to-grab handle, which is a necessity both for the mother or father who is frantically trying to rescue it from the backseat floor of the car and for the little one who is learning that he/she has hands that can be controlled and used! My son got much practice using his hands by putting the pacifier into his mouth, spitting it out, finding it, and re-inserting it once more.
The pacifier has a large "mouth guard" that insures that the baby will not be able to fit the entire thing into his/her mouth. It also has two "air holes", one on each side, for safety reasons. The top of the pacifier has a small indentation, giving room for the little one's nose and ensuring that it is put in the mouth properly (so that the baby's teeth are not damaged).
These Nuk pacifiers come in many colors, darker reds/blues for boys and lighter pink/yellows for girls, as well as plain colors and also white. They are easy to clean and can be put in the dishwasher on the top shelf. You can buy them as singles, or in packs of two (and sometimes you can find packs of three for the price of two, a great buy!) ore more. I always had a few new Nuk pacifiers put away for that inevitable "lost binkie crisis".
My son used Nuk the entire time he had a pacifier and we have purchased all sizes - under six months, six to eighteen months, and 18+ months. After he started to get teeth, he used his pacifier as an additional teething toy, occasionally puncturing a hole in the top of it, and I had to watch out for that. But he was never able to tear off the nipple part from the plastic - and boy, did he try! They are made very securely, and you will not have to worry about mishaps with this brand.
