| Shanny21's Full Review: Gerber Nuk Classic Pacifier |
I did not plan on giving my daughter any pacifiers but when I was breast feeding, her need to suck all the time was more then my body could take. I caved in and grabbed the pacifier the hospital sent home with us and placed it in her mouth. I was surprised that after giving her the pacifier she was calm, quite and content.
It was a relief for me in more ways then one! I was now not over feeding my daughter anymore, (and pardon me here but) also my breasts were able to not feel sore and tender from all the nursing. If she wanted to nurse she would let me know too! That pacifier would get spit out and she'd start screaming for mommy (so I wasn't worried about underfeeding her either).
She uses her pacifiers all the time now too. When we lay her down to go to bed, when we travel in the car or even if we are just at home not an hour will go by that I don't see a pacifier in her mouth. I do enjoy the peace it brings for the whole family but I am worried about breaking her of the habit when the time is right.
I have tried other shaped pacifiers too such as the rounded ones and I found out very quickly that the unique design of the NUK pacifier is what my daughter prefers and will only use!
Gerber makes a variety of shapes and colors for you to choose from.
Stage one
Made for newborns op to about 6 months old.
These are the smallest in size which makes it easier for a newborn baby to latch on to and it doesn't gag them either.
Stage two
Made for babies ages 6 months to 12 or 18 months.
These are twice the size of the stage one pacifiers
Stage three
Made for babies 18 months and older.
These ones are fairly big and you may not even need to change over to this size at all or until a later time.
My daughter is 19 months old almost and I just bought her some of the 18 month and up size. She is not quite sure of them and I find her choosing the stage two over the stage three more often then not. But she will use either or (I have even seen her grab a stage one and place it in her mouth).
Durable?
Yes they are. I am just starting to see some wear and tear on one of her older stage two sized pacifiers (the only one we can ever find when we really need one too) that she has had for about 8 or 9 months now.
They also hold up very well in the top rack of the dishwasher to (I place them in the nipple and ring holder made for bottles).
Complaints?
Only a couple and one every mother I'm sure knows is just pacifier law! They need to stop making them so they can grow legs and run off!! I don't want to think of how many pacifiers lay lost here or anywhere.
They can and do fill up with water after time. It does not happen right away but after so long water will get trapped in the NUK part of the nipple. You can easily get it out though by flattening the NUK part of the nipple.
The price of the Gerber NUK is not that bad at all either 2.97 for a 2 pack of them, you can afford to run out and by some more if you ever find yourself with out one of these handy little plastic sucky thingies! ;)
