| afollmer's Full Review: Gerber Nuk Classic Pacifier |
If you have read any of my other reviews, you know that I was pretty clueless when Amy was born just a few weeks ago. A few long, exasperating weeks ago. (I vaguely remember sleep - don't you?) Anyway, Amy never had a pacifier in her mouth whenever the hospital staff would bring her into my room after she was born. It was always there, in her bassinet, but never in her mouth.
When we brought home our little bundle of joy, she mostly slept and ate. And ate. And ate. Because I was (and am) breastfeeding, this constant feeding really took a toll on my body. I have to tell you, I literally thought my breasts would implode from all the sucking. And to make things worse, Amy would not take a pacifier.
Then, miraculously as she turned about 3 weeks old, she decided that pacifiers are a very good thing. This was great news for me, because I was beginning to re-think the concept of breastfeeding. And wouldn't you know it - the only pacifier that she would take was the Gerber NUK pacifier.
The Gerber NUK pacifier is shaped so that it fits easily into your baby's mouth, and it is not supposed to interfere with tooth formation or breastfeeding. This was great news for me, because I was concerned that giving Amy a pacifier would confuse her and make her not want the breast anymore. However, this was certainly not the case. She definitely lets me know when she wants to eat - the pacifier shoots across the room, and she starts the "Feed me Mommy, I'm Hungry" cry. So, I don't have to worry about starving her to death. Also, I don't have to worry that her gums and teeth will develop abnormally. You've all seen it - a kid with a severe overbite and protruding teeth. I didn't want that to be her.
In addition, Gerber NUK has 2 vent holes, one on either side of the pacifier, to make sure that your little angel can breathe. There is also a notch that fits under the nose, allowing your little one to breathe better.
Now, keep in mind that I'm still new at this. But so far, Gerber NUK has absolutely saved my sanity. It really is a lifesaver. The only drawback (which isn't Gerber's fault) is that these little buggers seem to just get up and walk off. I must have bought about 50 of them so far, and I can only account for about 3 or 4 at any given time...it must be a conspiracy.
