Pros: Small enough to be carried every day, EXCELLENT design
Cons: Small blade not so great for "wilderness" use, but other than that, no cons.
The Bottom Line: If you want a great little utility knife that opens easily and carries comfortably, the Ridge is for you.

| greenglowz's Full Review: Gerber Ridge Knife with Money Clip |
First, let me start by mentioning that this knife is the same one that is listed on Epinions 3 times or so under slightly different titles - so this review will be good for any of the "Gerber Ridge" listings...
I bought this knife because I wanted a knife that I can easily carry during the week in my dress pants which do not have much room for things like knives. Additionally, I wanted a knife that I could use for opening packages, etc at the office without freaking out my co-workers.
Before I purchased the Gerber Ridge, I carried a Smith & Wesson Extreme Ops Tanto knife with me because it was the only nice folding knife I had but I really bought it for use while hiking or camping. The S&W is a military-grade tactical knife, excellent for camping and hiking, or for weekend carry in a jeans pocket or something, but it really was uncomfortable to carry in a dress pants pocket, and got plenty of weird looks when I took out a tactical knife that opens to a full 7" at the office just to open a package...
So, enter the Gerber Ridge. Though I still carry my S&W on hiking trips, or on weekends because of the added need for a strong utility knife, my Gerber Ridge is my new best friend during the week.
Features that I like:
Small Blade - As I said before, no weird looks since
this knife does not in any way resemble a weapon (which is really what the S&W is). The smaller blade also makes for an incredibly compact knife that is light and takes up almost zero space in a pocket. I sometimes even wear it clipped to my belt with the clip facing out and the knife completely hidden behind my belt.
Quality Construction - Though this knife is small, you can tell it has that Gerber quality. Made from 420C steel, and very well constructed - this thing will definitely stand up to years of utility use. The blade is also Teflon coated, and razor sharp. Since it is just a standard blade with no serrations, it is very easy to sharpen too.
Note, the knife is also available in a serrated edge version (the Amazon Link on the bottom of this page takes you to that version of the knife) but check around on the internet and the plain-edge version can be easily found.
Easy to open quickly - While I do not carry any knife as a weapon since I would NEVER want to get into a knife fight, I do appreciate a knife that I can take out quickly and flip open with one hand all in a single motion - The Gerber Ridge is a very "Fast" knife. I am a lefty, and though it only really supports one-handed opening with the right hand, it is so easy to open that I have no trouble doing it right-handed. The knife is also easy to close, with a simple (but strong) mid-frame lock that you depress to close the blade.
Final Thoughts
I would not recommend this knife for camping/hiking/hunting use (or for use as a weapon if you are looking for that sort of knife). For any of these uses, I would highly recommend the S&W Extreme Ops Tanto, which is a GREAT tactical knife.
But - for comfortable daily carry, and normal utility use (especially in areas where any sort of thing that may resemble a weapon would raise eyebrows - like an office) this is a great knife. Besides, how many tree branches does one need to chop up in an office? :-)
Oh yeah - supposedly this knife can also double as a money clip - but... having a few bills clipped to the knife's carry clip really makes it quite useless as a knife. Do you really want to cut things with your wallet?
Bottom Line: - Highly recommended for normal utility use, and easy carry.
