Pros: Looks nice on the counter
Cons: See list below
The Bottom Line: Unusually large coffee maker. I would look further before considering the Gevalia Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.

My daughter lost everything in a fire this February. There were many donations but only a old worn out coffee pot. I was trying to replace everything she lost in the kitchen. I could not find the same coffee pot she had so we looked and ordered the Gevalia Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker.
Description
The coffee maker is taller then most I have used in the past, about 14 inches high. It is black with a water marker on the side in front. There is a little red ball inside that lets you know when the water level you want is reached. It makes 8 cups of coffee.
The lid on the top opens to let you pour the water in. This is somewhat larger and easier to pour the water in without spilling it.
The carafe is black with a screw on lid that lets you open to pour and close to keep hot. A very sleek looking machine the color is all black. The plate does not get hot and the carafe can be moved from the pot after it has finished.
The coffee grinds container under the water holder pulls out all the way to the side which makes it easy to add your cone shaped filter and coffee.
Pros
Very modern looking and attractive. The black color will go with most kitchen decors.
Easy to fill with water and coffee.
The carafe has a large easy to hold handle.
Coffee takes about 20 minutes to make which can be a pro or con. My Bunn makes coffee in about 3 minutes but some pots take as long as 30.
Quite no sputtering.
Longer cord then some coffee makers.
The carafe is easily cleaned; the material on the outside seems to be some kind of hard plastic but wipes off easily. The inside is cleaned by swishing with soapy water.
Cons
This coffee maker might be a problem if your counter has a cabinet over it. It is very tall and round and that takes up more space then other coffee makers.
The lid has to be almost completely unscrewed to pour the coffee without it coming from the little hole in the top of the lid. I found this out when I didnt unscrew it all the way and got burned.
The filters that came with the Gevalia Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker dont fit the filter holder very well and let grounds through into the coffee.
The inside of the carafe is just like some thermos bottles and can be broken if dropped very hard.
The coffee is not as hot as I like when it is first made, and the thermos starts to lose its capacity to keep the coffee hot after about two hours.
My recommendation is not to buy this coffee maker. There are better coffee makers out there for the money you would pay for this one. Try a Bunn for a little more money and faster better tasting coffee. http://www.epinions.com/hmgd-review-4CE1-15F6459C-3A116231-prod2
