| Gr8ful's Full Review: Gevalia 8-Cup Thermal Carafe Coffee Maker Black |
A few moths ago we visited some friends of ours who presented me with a cup of some of the best coffee I had ever had. I was amazed to learn that it had been brewed more than four hours before. After finding out that the coffee was Gevalia Morning Blend made in the Gevalia 8-Cup coffee maker, I wanted one. So a quick visit to gevalia.com and about a week later I had one.
The Gevalia Coffee System
The way this coffee maker works is simple. It brews the coffee just like a standard drip coffee maker but the coffee pot is actually a carafe. It is a plastic carafe insulated with a glass interior that keeps the coffee hot for hours without a heating plate. This keeps the coffee fresh and hot but doesnt burn it like your typical Mr. Coffee maker.
I can make a pot of coffee in the morning, have a cup or two and come back for another in the afternoon that will be just as fresh as the ones I had in the morning. No more sponging out burn coffee from the bottom of the pot because it sat on a heating plate too long.
Cleaning and care
This coffee maker is real easy to clean. The basket comes apart by simply lifting it and pulling outward. The coffee carafe can be cleaned with simple dish detergent and a bottle washer. The water tank can be washed with dish soap and a bottle washer as well. Some people run a tank of vinegar through followed by several tanks full of water but I dont like to do that because I always taster vinegar for at least two or three pots after I think its out.
The outside of the coffee maker can be wiped clean with a sponge or wet paper towels. You dont have to scrub the plate since there is no heating element to bake on coffee stains.
Gevalia Coffee
Gevalia has several blends of coffee and you get it ground or just the full beans. I got a coffee grinder for Christmas this year and I have been using the Gevalia special blend full bean and grinding each pot fresh. I have never had coffee that tasted so good before. I have always liked coffee but there is a distinct difference in good coffee and that hot motor oil called coffee that you get from 7-11 at 2:00AM when you need a wake me up on the road.
Gevalia has an ongoing promotion where you get the coffee maker and carafe free when you buy two bags of their awesome coffee. You can find the information at this web site.

Wake up and smell the Gevalia
I can make a pot of coffee when I go to bed at night and when I wake up in the morning, I have a fresh pot of coffee, hot, fresh and ready to be served. There is no need to rely on a timer, just make the coffee then go to bed.
I have to say that I am thoroughly happy with my Gevalia coffee maker and I cant believe the difference in taste when grinding your own beans fresh in the morning and what I used to call coffee. Gevalias full bean coffee is the best I have had and I have had quite a few. I havent tried the new Senseo that everyone is raging about but I have to say that the Gevalia system with the Gevalia blends of coffee is the best I have ever had.
Any Gripes?
I have one gripe but it is small. You must keep the area where the coffee drains into the pot free of coffee grounds or it will cause coffee to overflow on the counter. You must also make sure that the lid of the carafe is tightly in place or the same can happen. Although it is a pain when it happens, I have only had it happen once before learning how to prevent it. Just a heads-up in case you decide to get one of these fine coffee makers.
Conclusion
If your tired of wasting half a pot of coffee or more because it burned on the heater, try the Gevalia coffee system. Youll not waste another drop of coffee after you taste it. Also, check out their online offers. They have a lot of stuff on their web site to choose from and many different blends of coffee as well.
Thanks for reading,
Gr8ful :-)
