| yakkowarner's Full Review: Gevalia Le Procope |
I bought this from Gevalia.com through my regular shipments. This is part of their European Coffeehouse collection. On the box it states “Located on the left Bank, Le Procope, the oldest coffeehouse in Paris, became famous as the place to go to “mingle the attractions of the spirit with those of the palate.” A rendez-vous & symposium for lively conversation, Le Procope was frequented by such notable patrons as Voltaire, Rousseau and even Napoleon, who actually lfet his famous hat as a pledge. Today, Le Procope is still a celebrated gathering place for those in the arts, literature and politics. This classic blend of the finest Arabica beans is available for you to enjoy at LE Procope. One sip and you'll note its pleasing floral aroma and warm, smooth character. I started with 6 scoops of coffee. I put it in my electric round grinder and ground it to a medium consistency. Then I put it in my French press and leave it for 4 minutes before plunging. I use bottled water because my tap water is highly chlorinated. Aroma There is a brightness to the aroma and a smell of fermenting figs. I wouldn't call this pleasing and definitely should be paired with food. Taste This coffee has some body to it. There is quite a bit of acid, about as much as a Valencia orange would have. So that acidness can match up with the acidity in a glass or OJ. I don't taste the fig during the initial taste. Instead what I taste is a mild sweetness combined with the acid. No real interesting tastes Aftertaste There is a little bit of acidic aftertaste and the tail end has a hint of earthiness. The main aftertaste characteristic is that of a fermenting figs. Summary This is a good coffee but nothing out of this world. The taste is very mild but the aroma and aftertaste could put some people off. I would not recommend this to the average coffee drinker, just those that like bright coffee's. © Common Loon Productions Thanks to Bruguru for adding a lot of these coffee's to the database for me.
