Steelfan's Full Review: Gilmour Square Pattern Rotary Sprinkler, #Ws45os
Several years ago, my father sold his country home and moved into a small community that was easier to maintain and closer to stores and restaurants. He never really cared much about the condition of his lawn when he lived in the country. However when he moved into this new place, he decided it was time to manicure a beautiful lawn. This meant more work for me of course and a good dose of watering, weeding and fertilizing. He had a professional lawn care person come in a do the first part of the job, which was mainly getting rid of all the weeds and planting new grass where needed. After the lawn care guy left, it was up to me to keep his lawn watered and mowed. The first purchase that we made was a good sturdy sprinkler that would cover most of his lawn with two waterings. If we could do the front yard in one watering and the back yard another, we would be happy campers. The Gilmour Rotary Sprinkler, Ws45 was just the sprinkler head that we were looking for.
Small but mighty.
This sprinkler is made of all metal construction with a base made of zinc and the sprinkler tips made of brass. The whole thing kind of reminds me of a Octopus with three tentacles. This tentacles spin on the base with the force of the water that is pumped into it. The base has two wheels for pulling it around and an inlet for a garden hose and an outlet to added another sprinkler if desired. The total coverage area of the sprinkler is 2100 sq. ft at 60 pound per square inch of water pressure. Of course if you have more or less pressure that figure will vary. At the 60 psi rating, the sprinkler will shoot water about 40 feet in any direction. The inlet area has a screen in it to stop dirt from getting into the nozzles and blocking them.
How does it work?
While there is nothing like a good steady rain for watering, this sprinkler did water the whole front and back yard in two sessions of watering. The construction of this product makes me believe that it will last a long time. The pattern and the gentle spray of this sprinkler is perfect for watering new grass seed or flowers and vegetable gardens. It is also nice to know that you can add a second sprinkler to it and cover even more area. The wheels make the unit easy to move around so you can just the right location or move it out of the way when you are done. Cleaning this sprinkler is as easy as removing the mesh strainer inside the inlet and taking a needle or thin object to clean out the nozzles. I wanted to mention that after many uses, we have not experienced a clog of any of the nozzles. My father is on city water, so that fact probably helps. At the $12.99 price that we paid at Lowes, this product is well worth the money.
All in all: If you are like my father and want to your smaller lawn looking great, this is the perfect sprinkler for you. With its all metal construction and the ease of cleaning, this Gilmour product is a winner.
