Does potty training ever end? I feel we are so close, yet still so far away from graduating from diapers. Of course, for me the incentive is to get my 3 year old OUT of diapers for good before baby #2 comes around in 6 months...The race is on.
About the Ginsey Blues Clues Soft Potty Seat
I purchased this potty seat at Target several months ago when browsing through the baby/kiddie section. My son actually pointed it out and said "Blues Clues". He obviously liked it, and I figured it could potentially be a huge potty motivator. So, I sprung for this $10 or so purchase figuring it was worth a try. We didn't have much luck using a potty chair (see my review of the Baby Bjorn Little Potty) and had better results using a different brand potty ring (Safety 1st One Step Trainer Seat 11304) and step stool (Kids II My Little Step Stool) combination. However, while the Safety 1st trainer seat proved successful - we have essentially replaced it with this Blues Clues seat ever since that trip to Target.
The Ginsey Blues Clues Soft Potty Seat is a small plastic and padded vinyl ring-shaped seat that fits right on top of your toilet. The seat is held in place by a small plastic ring that extends under the seat and fits in the "hole" of your toilet seat. Once in place this seat makes the "hole" of the toilet kiddie sized so your child will be more comfortable when seated upon the throne and not have to precariously balance while you hope like heck their bottom doesn't fall in (been there and done that...)
Our seat is just like the one pictured that has Nick Jr. character Blue from Blues clues on it in various poses including in the "thinking chair" and also wearing the signature green striped shirt that Steve made famous, as well as the handy dandy notebook and the matching green striped crayon. I've seen a few different Blues Clues padded rings that are essentially the same as this one, but have different patterns. One has Joe's orange shirt on it, and another one has Blue and her friend Magenta. At the time we purchased our seat from Target the Steve shirt pattern was the only one available - and that's just fine here, as Steve is the favorite in our house.
Our Experience with this Seat
My son instantly "fell in love" with using this potty seat. Lets face it, when you are 3 years or so old - going on the potty is a big deal. My little guy was never a fan of little potty seats and wanted to use the big potty like everyone else in the house. But, his tiny hiney would slip through the hole and/or his legs would have to be spread open so wide that he would hold onto the bowl and balance for dear life. How comfy is that? Not. And to expect him to be able to actually use the potty while he was precariously perched is just not reasonable. Using this seat did away with all of that nonsense and actually made using the potty possible.
Cleaning this Ginsey Blues Clues Soft Potty Seat is pretty simple and can be done with any antibacterial soap, a wipe, or what not. Since its only used in my bathroom which I know when I clean or don't - I'm not as paranoid about it. However, if I was using this to take with me for public potty use then cleaning would be another story as in order to use this potty the bottom of the ring actually does come in close contact with the dirty seat and inner rim (ewww!).
We store ours next to the potty when its not in use, and when my son needs he puts it in place himself. It is that easy. I can say that he has left it on the seat on more than one occasion and I've accidentally sat and used it without a problem. I don't make a habit of that though as it makes the actual hole of the toilet quite small.
Overall, My son loves using this seat so much that I plan on going out and getting at least one more for use at my parents house. My son spends quite a bit of time at their house and while we could bring this one back and forth - I think I'd rather just buy a new one. At just over $10, this seat is pricey, but worth it! We'll use something like this til he is comfortable sitting on the toilet without fears of falling in.
