After having a dreadful experience with Glutino Breakfast bars in chocolate, you might think I know better to try them again. However, I really was looking for some quick, easy and still nutritious snack options for my son's school lunches. So, I figured I would give these bars another chance - this time with Apple flavors.
About Glutino Apple Breakfast Bars
I bought these in the "Nature's Market" section of my grocery for about $5 a box which contains 5 bars, breaking down to around $1 a bar.

Trying out the Glutino Apple Breakfast Bars
These bars are packaged individually in a foil wrapper so they stay fresh and are very portable. Unwrap it and you find a cereal bar that looks non-descript, they look quite similar to a Nutri-Grain bar. The consistency is a bit on the dry and crumbly side as opposed to being chewy. The few times that I personally ate them I found it absolutely a must to have a drink to wash it down with. The apple filling, is not artificial tasting at all like many apple fillings that I've encountered. I do wish you could taste more apple though and less "other stuff". The other stuff includes: raisins, dates and some spices, resulting in a sweet filling. They remind me of a holiday apple cake more than a fresh crisp and tart apple.
My almost 7 year old who is the one on the special diet who I bought these for does "ok" with them. Usually he doesn't eat the bar, but he'll eat at least half of it. The bars have 130 calories a piece and 70% of the recommended daily allowance for Vitamin C. Everything else about them nutritionally seems neglible. They aren't loaded with a ton of sugar nor artificial ingredients so I am content to let my son eat these whenever he asks for them. Still, given free reign to the apple bars he only rarely will go for them. Let's face it, they aren't very exciting or particularly great tasting though they are definitely edible.
If you are checking out the Glutino Apple Bars, I'd definitely suggest this flavor if you like a spiced apple flavor. And whatever you do, stay far far away from their Chocolate ones.
