Pros: Convenience, features.
Cons: Reliability, jog/shuttle wheel hard to use.
The Bottom Line: I really liked the VCR for its convenience and features but I would not buy another Sonic Blue because of its poor reliability.

| reller2001's Full Review: Rio DDV2120 VHS Dual Deck VCR |
Since I copy tapes quite frequently I thought the DDV2120 dual deck VCR would be more convenient than 2 VCRs connected together which I had been using. I found it very easy to copy with this VCR; it's as simple as selecting the start point and pushing one button.
Initially I was pleased with the convenience and features of this dual-deck VCR, although it takes some time to learn the operation because of the many features. The manual is large, well illustrated, and easy to follow.
However, the reliability of the DDV2120 is poor. The first thing to go wrong was the jog-shuttle wheel on the remote. Every time I used it the remote would stop working and I had to remove/reinstall the batteries to unlock it. I contacted tech service at Sonic Blue and they said to remove the batteries and consecutively push and hold for a few seconds every button on the remote to reset it. I tried that but it didn't work. I got a new remote under warranty but it still cost over $10.00 for shipping both ways. The jog/shuttle wheel is also hard to use....not enough gripping surface on the inner wheel. I have an old RCA remote with jog/shuttle that works much better. The next problem was that it would no longer record sequentially from deck 1 to deck 2, but I could live with that because it would still copy from deck 1 to deck 2. Then the auto time set stopped working and I had to set the clock manually. Finally, 2 days after the 1 year parts warranty had expired deck 2 jammed and would not eject the tape. Now I can't copy tapes or use deck 2.
It has very fast forward/rewind but it is difficult to stop where you want it to because of the speed of the ff/rew.
If reliability were better I would buy another but I will not take the chance.
