| supra661's Full Review: Soyo DVP850 DVD Player |
The Go Video DVD/MP3 player is an excellent bang-for-your-buck unit!
I bought this as an "extra" DVD player when it was on sale at Radio Shack several months ago. At one point, I rented a movie that kept causing my sony DVD player to skip all around.... Very frustrating.... So I pulled this el-cheapo unit from the bedroom in the hopes that it might play the skipping DVD. -It did!! WHen it came to a spot that would have caused the Sony DVD Player to forget what it was doing, The Go Video would show a momentarily distorted image and then just keep on truckin' through the movie. Because of that and a couple more similar experiences, the Sony is now in the bedroom and the Go Video unit (which I paid 1/3 as much for) is my main DVD player in the living room.
It does not fast-forward or rewind quite as quickly/clearly as the Sony, but picture quality is equal. It also does not have an optical audio output, but I just used the coaxial digital output instead. I can't honestly tell any difference in sound quality between the optical output on my Sony or the digital output on this one.
The Go Video DVD player also has the ability to play a multitude of formats, including things downloaded/recorded on your PC such as digital home videos. The Sony DVD player does not have that capability.... And it is quite frustrating. -The Sony will NOT even play a common home-recorded music disc on CD-R format!! --Point being, the Go Video does many things that other, higher priced DVD players cannot or WILL not do. So, if you're looking for a good all-around unit that's not too harsh on the pocket-book, look no farther than this Go Video DVD!
