As an elementary school speech-language pathologist, I am always looking for fun materials that meet some of the goals for the kids I see. This book is great because the reading level is very basic, and it addresses many early developing concepts that may be missed by language disordered kids.

It addresses big and little, black and white, in and out, on, around, out, up and down, over and under, basic color identification, negation, night and day, work and play, and stop and go.

The illustrations are very simple and to the point, and since there is not a huge plot, it is easy just to focus on what is going on in each page. The dogs are very engaging, and after doing all sorts of things, finally end up at a dog party in a tree.

This book is also appropriate for beginning readers, and has many sight words that would allow the child to feel successful in a reading together, or read aloud setting.

The book is rather exciting for little ones, so I would not recommend it for a bedtime story. it also is rather long, at 64 pages, but only has 10 to 20 words per page on average.
