| grneyedcwboy's Full Review: Gold Bond Medicated Anti-Itch Cream |
To this day, if I saw it I couldn't remember. That is probably a stupid thing considering I had such a bad case I had to go to the doctor about 12 years ago.
I remember the day well...I was pulling 'weeds' along my fence on a hot day in July. It was humid and I was sweating like an WWF wrestler. I lived in Maryland then, and I was new to the climate and the vegetation. I thought I had some new and exotic weed growing in my yard and I was bound and determined to get rid of it. After pulling the weeds out by hand and wiping my brow numerous times, it was time to go inside and cool down.
I sat on the chair in my kitchen and looked at my hands. I remember thinking 'Oh man, I should have worn gloves' . Time for a shower...I hopped in and lathered up after rubbing water through my hair etc.
Well, as you can figure by now, I had sufficiently rubbed the poison over my entire body. Within about an hour of pulling the poison ivy, I had become red and itchy over every imaginable part of my body. My ears, eyelids, scalp and other places (ahem)! I looked all over in my bathroom for something that would take away the itch. The more I searched, the more I scratched. All I could find was a beat-up old tube of some cortisone cream that I am sure had expired. I applied it generously and waited. Nothing happened...except for more itching.
I tolerated the itch for several more hours, but by then, I had become so miserable that I had to seek help. I was so swollen and red from scratching that I thought maybe I had gotten stung by something.
I went to my family doctor, who then, in my opinion should have retired about 10 years earlier when he could still see. He suggested Gold Bond. I had to laugh because he was so old that I thought he must have been around when the stuff first came out. He had some of it lying around the office and he handed it to me and said to apply it like the directions said. Reluctantly, I followed his advice.
I went home, miserable as ever, thinking I had just wasted my time and a co-pay, and put the stuff on. What the heck, he gave it to me and it couldn't hurt.
Instantly, I felt relief. Oh my goodness, sweet relief! I rushed out and got some more at the store. Within about three days, I was completely cured, except for the places where I scratched so hard that I left a scab ( I know, you shouldn't scratch that hard..but wouldn't you)and soon after, even those places were better.
I called my doctor and thanked him for a) Not retiring yet and b) recommending the GoldBond. Maybe those older doctors still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Thank you Dr. Michaels...and thank you Gold Bond!
