Pros: Powder. Easy to use. Soothes. Heals.
Cons: Strange smell. Doesn't linger long though.
The first time I bought Gold Bond Triple Action Medicated Body Powder was when my oldest visited a friend and played on the trampoline with some pants that were made out of that slick parachute material. I knew something was wrong when I picked him up, but he's shy (about some things). So, he waited until we got home to tell me that his legs and other body parts were hurting. I checked this out (much to his embarrassment) to see what we might be dealing with, and he had brush burn looking places all over his lower body.
Nothing on hand seemed quite right, so I went to the store and looked around. Gold Bond Powder sounded like it might be a good choice. On the side (which is hard to read due to small print), it said it was good for minor cuts, sunburn, insect bites, scrapes, prickly heat, minor burns, rashes, and minor skin irritations.
A good all purpose medicated powder sounded like a fine idea (especially since he does not care for lotions), and I figured his leg burns fit under minor skin irritations, rashes, or prickly heat. I didn't see anything at the store that said "brush burn" which is what I'd call what I was seeing. So, it was Gold Bond that I grabbed.
The results were almost instant. My kid was back to his happy self and playing again. He used the powder for three days and was cleared up. It can be used by anyone over 2 years 3 to 4 times a day liberally on dry skin.
When Scout Camp rolled around, I packed the Gold Bond (4 oz bottlenice for travel)just in case. My boys hate when I jam all sorts of stuff in their bags, but you never know when youll need something and then not have it. In fact, my boys didnt need the Gold Bond, but some of their buddies ran into problems with heat rash and with thigh rub burns from all the walking. The bottle came home almost empty, and my boys said all the guys were thankful to have that at camp. I make sure to send some every year now.
Typically I dont need this product, but occasionally I get some chafing at the bra line. Thats during the summer. Ive found that Gold Bond helps a lot with that. It both soaks up sweat and also cools and heals (with the zinc oxide). With that cooling (which I think comes from the menthol in there), it also is good on sunburns though Im careful and very seldom have too much sun on my body. Still, if I feel a little sun heat, I sprinkle with this for instant cooling. Its kind of like an ice pack but not near so intense.
Someone told me that this is odorless, but that is not the case. It has an odd, medicinal smell. Its not bad but not very sexy either. Fortunately, the smell only lingers for a short while. And, you have to be close to smell it.
I keep Gold Bond Powder on hand all the time now. It is very versatile, and it works. My kids like to use the powder better than the creams and lotions. I use it now and then too. We all give it a thumbs up.
