General Mills Golden Grahams is not only an excellent source of iron and a good source of calcium but it tastes pretty damn good right out of the box for snacking. With the crunchy taste and the tiny little taste of honey, it's something that can get you started on a great path for the day. Yeah, that's what the box says but it doesn't tell you how great they taste, that they are perfect to add to a home made snack mix. It's a hearty cereal that fills you up but isn’t so sweet and loaded with sugar that you crash an hour later.

Aside from what you read on the box, Golden Grahams has an awesome crunch that lasts long after you pour on the milk. I like to use these when I made Rice Krispie Treats because it adds a little bit of a honey taste to it. Sure, they are already sweet from the marshmallows but the honey in the Golden Grahams takes that "too sweet" edge off of it. One of the best parts is that they don't break into a million tiny pieces so it gives them not only a different taste but a different appearance.

Golden Grahams is part of General Mills "Whole Grain" cereal line so not only does it have a great taste but it's slightly good for you. Of course you do have to stick to the recommended portion of 3/4 of a cup. From that you get 120 calories, 1 gram of fat, 26 grams of carbohydrates [11 from sugar] and 2 grams of protein. You can make this a tad bit healthier by adding a banana or some fresh strawberries to it and since it is sweetened with honey you wont need to add any sugar to it. Because of the honey in this, Golden Grahams is not a vegan friendly product.

What gives it that strong crunch? Part of it is the whole grain wheat and part of it is the thickness of it. Some cereals get soggy after two or three minutes in milk but Golden Grahams stays pretty solid. I like to smash up about half a cup and add it to the tops of muffins for a little extra crunch and sweetness. If you want super crunchy muffins, add a quarter cup of this to a quarter cup of granola and add to the tops before baking.

You can get this cereal in several sizes but the most popular is the 16 ounce size. That's the one that goes on sale most of the time and when they are on sale for five for $10.00 I try to stock up on them. General Mills is usually pretty good about having coupons available too but most of them are .75 cents off of two boxes but occasionally you can find the $1.00 off two of any General Mills cereals and that helps bring the price down even lower.

This cereal is part of the BoxTops For Education program. Just cut out the small coupon on the top of the box and send it in to your child's school. They can redeem them for supplies, internet access or anything that they may need. It's a great way to help out with programs and it takes all of three seconds to clip it off the box. If your child likes the Millsberry.com games be sure to look for game tokens that sometimes appear on the boxes.

While Golden Grahams will never earn the title of 'best cereal ever' in my books, it is something that I can grab a few handfuls of when I want something sweet to snack on but don't want a candy bar or bag of microwave popcorn. General Mills backs this with their guarantee that you will be satisfied with it or they will replae it or refund your purchase price. Do they stand behind it? Yeap. I had one box that was stale due to a small break in the seal and less than a week later I had replacement coupons for it.
