Goldschlager Cinnamon Schnapps Liqueur

I suppose the most unique quality about this fine liqueur is that fact that it contains gold flakes within the silky, clear, liquid. Now, knowing the fact that I would be digesting these gold flakes never fazed me one bit. I had often heard, through the grapevine, that this precious metal could somehow be good for you. How? Your guess is as good as mine, but I am here to tell you that I am none the worse for wear for having digested many shot glasses of this fever raising liquid.
They say (and exactly who are THEY anyway?) that this is 23K gold leaf flakes. All I know is it would take a tremendous pile of these flakes to amount to much. But it sure is decorative floating around in the odd shaped bottle.
Ahh, the bottle.
I love this bottle. It has a wide bottom with a short, wide body. Then extended from the body is a long neck. Most of the bottle is neck. This attractive bottle is clear (so you may see the flakes floating). For decoration, you will find an medal type emblem on the front located at the base of the neck. You will see the name Goldschlager in big bold black letters and right beneath that you will have a gold band that surrounds the body of the bottle. The base sort of dips inward at the bottom and looks pretty neat when the bottle is just sitting there. If the bottle is ever *just* sitting there. (wink, nudge) Note that these flakes just don't float at will, you must shake the bottle to get the floating effect.
On to the nose.
When you first open the bottle of crystal liquid, you will notice a light, tempting, but not overpowering scent of cinnamon oil. You would imagine it would be wildly robust, but it is quite the opposite. I found it to have a gentle yet biting perfume that seem to have an almost sexy allure that invited me to sample it and discover the prize it had waiting for me.
What's the prize?
I prefer my liqueurs on the warm side. Many enjoy a cold to near frozen effect, but I find the quick fuzzy effect to be more desirable. The first sip, and I do recommend sipping as opposed to guzzling, you will experience a satin like flow that is graceful as it swirls around and under your tongue. As the sweet, sleek fluid makes it's way down your throat, you will notice a tingle to near burning sensation and you will find that your tummy will have the same feeling as it warms you up and teases your judgment. Beware of this combustible cordial, it will sneak up on you and render you helpless. Always use good judgment before you take a notion to drink the gold one. Let's face it. At 43.5% being a whopping 87 proof, this stuff isn't going to play cat and mouse with you.
Paying the toll
Goldschlager Cinnamon Schnapps Liqueur won't do too much harm. You can find it at most if not all stores that sell spirits. You can find it in a 750 ml bottle and it will cost you anywhere from about $21 to $30. Depends on how bad your local retail store is going to get you. You can also get the hot stuff in a tiny mini like bottle. I don't recall the prices on them but for a micro bottle of most anything else, I pay about $3 to $5 for them, so I would imagine it would be about the same. There is more toll to pay than just the cost of the bottle though. Read on...
The morning after!
Oh boy. I felt bad. I mean really BAD the first time I drank it and found out all too late that I over did it and couldn't turn back time. I suffered for a couple days over it too. But I will say that my, um, "up chuck" was bordering on being pretty. I know... Yuck! And I am just joking, but in all seriousness, use with caution and moderation. Goldschlager is very potent and hides it's effect up until you think it has no effect, and then BOOM! There you have it. Be careful. Do not drink and drive.
My last word.
I highly recommend Goldschlager Cinnamon Schnapps Liqueur to both the moderate spender or the high roller. It suits everyone who finds the subtle taste of cinnamon oil to be a delight. A little recipe for you follows as my treat to you. I enjoy it straight and hot myself but have tried it this way before and it was good.
1/3 shot Goldschlager
1/3 shot Tequila
1/3 shot Jack Daniels
Tabasco Sauce (as many drops as you can stand)
Combine this in a tube (shooter) and SHOOT!
