Apparently Rihanna is part Canadian as well. Now then, "Umbrella" is definitely an excellent song. Totally anthemic. And I like to think of Jay's verse as a prelude. It builds into the song itself.
I refuse to listen to another Rihanna song unless it's as good as "Umbrella". And that's final.
Oh, in case you missed it, year-late ratings/comments are the shit nowadays. Catch yo' ass up on the trend!

I can't believe we had the same opinion on the track "Say It." I like it but I just thought it was a weird song at first...and I read a lot of your comments and to me, I thought "Unfaithful" was a strong performance of Rihanna's. She has a lot of vibrato and she sounded great, emotion wise. It would have been much better if she would've had a bit more of a range but I thought it was great, something different.

Everyone should be an Eighties freak!!
I think I listen to most of her reggae-flavored stuff with "Pon De Replay" still bouncing around in my head, and there aren't words in the English language to describe how much I hate that song. It took me a while to even appreciate her good stuff for that reason.

to the samples and I really like it so far especially because of that 80s flavor that you mentioned (I've been an 80s addict for the past few weeks). This new sound for her is not bad at all for her, though I do really like her reggae-inspired work.

The ballads are MUCH better this time around. On that "Unfaithful" song, she sounded like a bleating goat.
I'm quite fond of "Umbrella" as well, to my mild embarrassment. I've been gooing "ella-ella-eh-eh-eh" to myself ever since I heard the song at a party last week.

Haven't heard the Hilary Duff yet (although I was quite surprised by the sound of the one song I've heard) and I don't know if Amerie will ever come out in the U.S., so I'll have to take your word for it on those two.
The digipak doesn't bother me at all. The packaging is sort of flimsy, but at least it's not oblong or misshapen. What can I say? The little things make me happy.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I love that song. I don't mind "Shut Up and Drive" either. Although, she really over does it with the obvious metaphors, doesn't she? The problem I have with Rihanna is that she doesn't have the voice to pull off ballads. That "I don't wannna be a murderer" song was horrendous.
