Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
I really have a problem with the way Good Luck Chuck was advertised. The trailers made it seem as if this film simply served to deliver a botched relationship between two individuals. What Good Luck Chuck honestly gives us, is a plot full of pornographic sex sequences, mean-spirited humor and downright offensive material...Without any redeeming qualities whatsoever.
Good Luck Chuck begins with Charlie (Chuck) (Dane Cook) receiving a long-term hex thanks to a bewitched and very young goth. Don't even ask me about the "logic" behind this ridiculously overused and dumb storyline. Good Luck Chuck requires a fair amount of disbelief. The curse basically transforms Chuck into a "lucky charm", meaning whoever sleeps with him will fall in love with the next guy they meet. Chuck later meets an extremely attractive women, Cam, and pursues on a quest to marry her. However, matters become very complicated when Chuck begins receiving messages consisting of random females asking for sex.
Good Luck Chuck defines the phrase "mean-spirited". Women are portrayed as mere sex objects, and nothing more. This flick focuses on one main word. Exploitation. I'm not stating that I have an issue with naked women, but I am noting that once we're given a shot consisting of a 16 square frame with Dane Cook participating in hardcore actions with multiple girls, you know a movie is only striving for a further adult rating.
The performances are convincing enough for us to absolutely detest Cook, and wonder why an earth Jessica Alba chose to star in a flick such as this. Good Luck Chuck is made up of sex, childish one-liners and other cliche/unfunny jokes. That's it. There were a couple snapshot moments of subtle laughter, but nothing truly worthy of any comedic praise. I never understood Dane Cook's style of humor, and personally, I can't stand his comedy skits. He relies much on swearing and inappropriate subject matters. Cook refused to introduce anything out-of-character in Good Luck Chuck. He plays an incredibly creepy man who eventually stalks Alba in a somewhat cringing manor.
Good Luck Chuck possessed sluggish pacing. There were frequent moments during the flick where a fast glance at my watch felt required. The films second act itself felt like three hours.
Overall, if you're seeking a movie with plenty of bombshells and intercourse, Good Luck Chuck might suit your taste. However, if you're on the hunt for a tasteful and thoughtful comedy, don't bother chasing Chuck.
