xgollum's Full Review: Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett - Good Omens: The ...
Everyone says this is Monty Python's Book of Revelation. They are all correct. This is a madcap, lunatic romp through the end times. The four horsemen of the Apocalypse are bikers, and the Hell's Angels ride with them. Pestilence walks off duty, grumbling of Penicillin, and Pollution takes his place. War is a woman that men fight over, and Famine is a man who creates crash diets that convince people to starve themselves.
An angel and a demon conspire to prevent the end of the world from happening, and the demon's car stereo turns every cassette tape into The Best of Queen. The angel runs a small quiet book store. When they find out the end of the world is impending, they decide they have to prevent it. It turns out, the Antichrist was switched at birth from the child of a high level political figure with the child of a unimportant family outside London.
A witch named Agnes, who is given a book about the end of the world, raised to understand prophecy, raised to know how the world is supposed to end, must struggle against her incompetent magic, and the incompetent people around her, and the knowledge that she may not be able to change anything.
I won't divulge too much more, and quite frankly, I can't say how much of this book was written by either author, but the fact is, if you like british humor, along the lines of the afore mentioned Monty Python, Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide) and Rowan Atkinson, then this is something you should read, and probably add to your library. I don't often laugh aloud when reading, but let me tell you, I laughed loud and often at this very original, very humorous piece of work.
