Javelina's Full Review: Goodnight Moon Floor Puzzle from Mudpuppy
My daughter has just gotten very much into puzzles around age 2.5. I am fortunate that she has gotten some puzzles as gifts, even if they were for ages 3+ (and many puzzles I see start at 3+). She was definitely too young for this puzzle when she first got it, but it has gotten a lot of use recently.
We have enjoyed reading the book "Goodnight Moon" by Margaret Wise Brown, a typical childhood classic. This puzzle uses an image from the book that is very recognizable, at least to us!
The Puzzle
This floor puzzle has a list price of $17. It has 24 pieces and the full size of the puzzle is 2' x 3'. The pieces come in a glossy cardboard box that has a rope handle. This was a gift, and I have not seen it in stores.
My Thoughts
The puzzle pieces are a very sturdy, thick cardboard and are glossy color on the tops. The puzzle image is from the book, and consists of the little bunny's bedroom with all the main components of the book (the old lady knitting, mittens, kittens, pictures of the cow jumping over the moon, etc).
There are 24 pieces to this puzzle which seems typical of all the puzzles we do that fit this age category. The pieces are large but also durable, and we can manage doing this puzzle on carpet even though most other smaller puzzles won't stay together. None of the pieces have bent or broken, although I have been pretty good about making sure my toddler doesn't step on these puzzle pieces.
The pieces have enough detail to them that they are unique, and it makes it easy enough for my daughter to find pieces. Although she is only 2.5, sometimes she finds the pieces on her own, or I can point out where pieces go together. For example, I will point out a piece with half a cat on it so she can match it to another piece. We get frustrated with puzzles that have pieces that are blank or don't have enough pictures on them for toddlers to be able to figure out which ones go together.
Overall
This is a sweet puzzle that is a great accompaniment to the classic book. My toddler recognizes it from the many nights we have read her the book, and she enjoys being able to relate the puzzle to the book. I am giving this 4 stars because it seems pretty durable, the picture is cute, and the puzzle pieces have enough detail that they are easy enough to match up.
