| butanemopar's Full Review: Goodyear Assurance TripleTred Tire |
WINTER UPDATE
So I've spent 8 months with these tires now, and I have to say that it's been the best automotive 8 months ever. The Stratus tracks perfectly and runs smoothly with plenty of traction at all times. The tires have kept their nice new black look and with the first rotation schedule coming up, they still look like new.
This past winter the TripleTreads worked much better than I thought. They are still NOT snow tires, so don't get cocky with these tires in the ice and snow. Treat the slick with respect, and the TripleTreads will take care of you. I did not get stuck at all this winter in anything. I was able to slowly get myself out of any ice patch or snow drift by revving to just over 1,000RPM and the tires kept their grip and pulled the car out of the winter mess. They treat the slush just like the water, shooting it out from the treads with the V pattern. Again, these are NOT winter tires, but they were the best all seasons i've experienced in winter weather before. They do not seem to dissapoint me.
Just two days ago I was driving home on IL I88 when I was hit with a torrential downpour. I was going 65 and immediately slowed down to about 60 or under when my Dodge Stratus sedan hydroplaned! I lost complete control and swerved all over my lane, luckily avoiding the middle ditch. However I hit a car in the right lane, smashing up my right rear and almost his entire left side.
It was the scariest thing ever. Im ever so glad that both of us were able to walk out uninjured and talk to one another. He was another fellow NIU student; and the fact that the horrid weather almost took this innocent, sweet kid from this earth will haunt me for a long time.
The first thing I did once I actually got home the next day was go tire shopping.
My OEM Goodyear Eagle LS tires were fantastic tires for a while. But the last several months they've been showing wear with 52,000 miles on them. They still seemed to have enough tread, but I was not taking anymore chances.
I did some web searching yesterday morning and found that the Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread tires have had fantastic reviews for all the concerns I had for a tire.
I headed over to my local Discount Tire store and grabbed myself four new Assurance Triple Treads.
On the ride back to Dekalb I was hit again with a very similar downpour. Needless to say I was going a much slower 50mph all the way. It was quite scary, especially passing mile marker 109 where the accident occurred. But the Triple Treads took me back to school unscathed and very confident.
There are parts of I88 that do not channel water off the road well and I plowed through a couple puddles, very nervous. But the Assurance Triple Treads cut through those puddles like a knife.
Just in the first few days with these tires I am so impressed with them over my old Eagle LS's. These are quieter, much more responsive, and most importantly, SAFER in the rain. They do feel different than the old tires. I suspect it is much like getting used to a new pair of shoes, since my car feels quite different, but not at all unsafe or uncomfortable. One thing I noticed right away is the responsiveness. Steering is much more sensitive and the tires will react to the smallest steering movement you make. Its going to take getting used to, but Im starting to like it.
As I am very new to these tires, and as I experience them, I will offer periodic updates as I enjoy these new tires.
