| simplemoney's Full Review: Goodyear Integrity Passenger/Performance Tire |
I call this review "BLOWOUT", because this tire has, what I consider, the best price/performance combination on the market today. Coupled with Goodyears buy three get one free sale, I couldn't resist picking up a pair last week.
I'm partial to Goodyear. The Escort wagon I put them on (you can read that review here: http://www.epinions.com/auto-review-5844-14849004-38FF63E9-prod5 ), originally came with Goodyear tires. They were JUNK!!! They started cupping after 20,000 miles and a tire specialist actually thought the suspension on the car was shot. But my father-in-law also had the same problem with his Escort and put on a set of Michelin's and the cupping never occurred again.
I gave Goodyear another shot at my business because I know that tires are manufactured to the car makers specifications, not the consumers. I put on a set of Weatherhandlers, and they were absolutely wonderful for 70,000 miles. This brings us to last week. Needing an inspection, I knew the Weatherhandlers would fail for lack of tread, and had been waiting anxiously for a tire sale. Goodyear came through with the buy three get one free deal and I went to the Goodyear web site to find a tire. After putting in my preferences, rating quietness and wet weather handling as most important, it recommended Eagle's or Integrity's. The last thing in the world I was about to do was put Eagle's on an Escort. Maybe a Firebird or Corvette, but that when I paid $9,300 for this car brand-new, I couldn't swallow a $500 price tag for tires. The Integrity's were about $50/tire (all balancing/mounting - everything but tax). So after $200 I drove the Escort, and it was a NEW car.
The Weatherhandlers were quieter than the original equipment tires, so I didn't notice just how much quieter a tire could make this Escort. Now to be honest, the interior isn't as quiet as a Lexus, but I've gone from talking loud to talking normal at highway speeds. Road noise still comes through, but the decibel level is significantly reduced.
The tires handle well, having had to make a few emergency maneuvers this past week - standard fare in rush hour traffic. And I am extremely happy.
Traction is rated as A/B, temperature B and treadwear at 460.
So far I am very impressed. This isn't the best tire on the market, but it is the best tire in its price class. And no Firestone blowouts to worry about.
(NOTE) - I am fully aware that the Firestone tire problems are specific to truck tires, not passenger. However, with there latest statement that they mislabeled tires in Venezuala and there reluctance to increase the recall as instructed by NHTSA, I don't want a pair of Firestones for fear that, if they should have problems, they may not be very quick in taking care of their customers.
