| siggy55's Full Review: Goodyear Marathon Radial Trailer Utility Tire |
I purchased a new 2001 EZ Loader boat trailer equipped with Goodyear Marathon radials (175/80R13). I am anal about safety and maintenance. Before every trip, I measure my tire air pressures with an accurate dial gauge, and I adjust the air pressure -- every time -- to avoid driving with tires improperly inflated. During the winter, I raise my trailer (and boat) on jack stands to relive the tires of weight. I wash my boat and trailer regularly and I use tire covers to prevent UV degradation.
Read: I babied the tires.
My tires have a lot of tread remaining -- yet, last week, and on smooth pavement with no rhyme or reason, one of my Goodyear Marathon tires came apart. It damaged my trailer fender, light and electrical cabling. The tire just came apart. I replaced the tire on a busy highway, and I am now going to replace the remaining 3 tires -- even though they have tread remaining. I do not characterize all such Marathon radial tires, I am merely reporting MY direct experience with them. I do not trust these tires. I will go out of my way to avoid buying another Goodyear Marathon tire, and this experience causes me to seriously rethink whether Goodyear tires -- in general -- are good candidates for purchase.
