| michiman1's Full Review: Goose Island Summer Time German-Style Kolsch Bier |
While in Chicago last week I found myself in a walk-in cooler of a local market, I came out with a six pack of Goose Island Summertime Kolsch Beer to help me beat the 90 degree weather. As the saying goes, "When in Rome ... Do as the Romans do ..." I found a new saying, "When in Chicago ... Do as the Chicagoans do ..."
Goose Island Summertime Kolsch Beer is brewed in Chicago by local Goose Island Beer Company and is only brewed from April to September. This brew can be found in both bottles or on draft. Of course, this review is on the bottled version, I would love to taste this product on draft. Goose Island Summertime Kolsch Beer is 4.2% alcohol by volume and 3.4% by weight.
Goose Island Summertime Kolsch Beer is a lagered beer which pours a clear, light golden color with a nice head. I found this beer to have a clean, fresh taste with minimal bitterness and little or no after-taste. Both the lightness and freshness of the brew are the perfect match for hot summer weather. It will not leave you with a full feeling as many heavier beers may leave you on a hot day.
I enjoyed the last of these I had available with a couple of brats with onion and pepper. Along with a side of coleslaw on a warm summer evening, this beer is a welcome addition.
As for availability, as I stated before, it is only brewed between April and September and I have made a concerted effort to locate Goose Island Summertime Kolsch Beer in several stores in the suburban Detroit area to no avail. Several bottles made their way home with me but now that I am on empty I'll have to step up my search locally.
I must apologize for being a rookie to the gourmet or beers section of Epinions but I found this to be such an enjoyable beer that I felt compelled to share my opinion. Should you have further interest in tasting various beers from around the world, I can assure you this site is loaded with fine reviews by a number of writers including Bruguru, andaryl, Beerfly and 4-1-1 among others.
