Well, this is completely unlike anything i've seen before in my life! A (British) cartoon band with no particular style of music whatsoever. The tracks are very varied, without leaning toward one style of music. This could be a good or a bad thing, if you like one style of music, then it will most probably be on this album. This of course also means that there will no doubt be tracks you don't like (seemingly no-one likes Latin Simone, and Rock Da House isn't too great). So, despite this, there will undoubtedly be an awful lot of tracks you like, with 17 tracks on the album, disliking 2 isn't too bad.
Tracks on this album include:
'Re-hash'
Offers a fast, funky song to really start the album in style (even if the lyrics don't make too much sense).
'4/5'
Another fast track which has great guitar, bass and features the great lyrics 'and then i tell myself, she turned my cat on'.
'Tomorrow comes today'
Some more intriguing lyrics and a nice bass line make for one hell of a song.
'New Genious'
I don't really know what to think about this song, its all a bit slow for me and there is no real bass line. Seems to me that the only really instruments used are bells. One of my less preferred songs.
'Clint Eastwood'
Wow, this one is totally different to the radio edit. Although in all respects a rap song, it's all slow enough to hear the (fantastic) lyrics but no so slow to be tedious.
'Man research'
A great song when it gets going, but its the getting going bit that annoys me. When the minute of utter crap has finished, it leaves quite a nice track. Not one of my favourites
'Punk'
Exactly what it says on the tin. A loud, fast punkrock track with some awesome guitar work.
'Sound check'
Ok, this is a really, really odd track. It sounds to me like someone went a bit crazy and started hitting the sound effects board with a big hammer. Despite this, i really like this song, its very...individual.
'Double bass'
Does this album keep getting weirder? The only lyrics in this whole track are 'all of which make me anxious, unbearably so at times', the rest is instrumental but really quite funky.
'Rock the house'
I know this was a single, but it shouldn't have been. One of the only two tracks i dislike.
'19/2000'
Another single, but this time a really good one. It's really catchy and after you listen to it three or four times, you find yourself humming it everywhere, in the shower, on the train, anywhere! I never knew songs could be addictive, but this one is and its one of my favourites.
'Latin Simone'
The other track i'm not too keen on is all in Latin. As i only speak English, French and Welsh (don't ask), it doesn't appeal to me. It gets me because i like to be able to hear lyrics. That’s why im not really bothered with rap, you can't hear it. So that makes this track is even worse, you can hear it, but you can't understand it no matter how many times you listen carefully.
'Starshine'
One of my favourites on the whole album, this is quite slow, but has a great bass line, good lyrics and nice guitar work, it should have been a single!
'Slow country'
Does exactly what it says on the tin, this is a slow song. The lyrics are very slow, the guitar is nice but slow and the bass line is very slow. Despite all this slowness, its a nice break from some of the faster tracks.
'M1A1'
'Hello, is anyone there?' Well, you'd better hope you like this phrase, cos it takes up the first 2 and a half mins of this track, over and over again. It gets a little tedious but it's worth listening to just for the last 30 seconds which really do rock. Its a shame that there couldn't have been more good part and less of the crappy bit.
'Clint Eastwood'
The radio-edit of the song mentioned above, apart from removing some of the more fruitful lyrics, this song is fast, genuinely a rap track. Although this is a very nice song, i don't like it quite as much as the original
'19/2000'
Another radio-edit of a single, this is (in my opinion) the better edit of 19/2000. This track is again faster than the original, and in my opinion better for it! Again, this song falls into the 'highly addictive' category
Oh, if you ever get the chance see the videos, they're fantastic, especially 19/2000. Imagine 4 men on a hum-vee launching a homing missile at a 50 foot high moose. The moose sneezes knocking the missile off course. It sounds quite dubious, but really its not, its really funny. Oh, on the enhanced CD, there's this funny 'Murdoc's Winnebago' thing, its quite scary and involves you exploring one of the band members camper-vans. At the end of the day, it sounds like this band are a bit of a jack of all trades, master of none, but their not, it all comes together fantastically.
