This car seat is ONLY a base that adds extra height to position the belt not add side protection protection. Great is money is a concern. The problem is that there is not much more protection than if you had you child sit on a pile of books. For just around $15.00 more you can most likely find a seat with the back and side protection.
The seat is great for tall children or those who don't want to be seen sitting in a car seat, although mine are so used to it that it's not an option until they reach the correct height or weight. It is also very easy to move from car to car.
I do not feel safe placing my children in a seat that does not offer the side and back protection and if at all affordable most know that the 5 point harness is number one! Many convertible seats now offer the 5 point all the way up to 80 pounds.
To those who can't afford the boosters with the side impact protection there are many programs that are NOT income guidelines to receive a free car seat to you. You can locate these programs through local sheriffs department or the county health department. Now they will not be the top of the line Britax or Sunshine kids but it will meet all up to date standards. Good luck!
