| imaginetr's Full Review: Graco Cozy Toddler Bed 8840 |
Style= A; Assembly= A ; Durability= A; Size= A; Price= A .
We bought this toddler bed for our 20 month old daughter. It was $39.99 on sale form $49.99 at Burlington Coat Factory (which is more than just a coat store). She's tall, 99 percentile in height and 98 in weight. This bed is recommended for children age 15 months to 5 years and weighing no more than 50 lbs. Our daughter is 30lbs.
My wife brought this home and I was unsure at first. I emptied the box and instantly perceived how it assembled. There are 6 durable, white plastic components to the bed and 5 wooden 1x2 slats. Parts include: 1 headboard; 1 footboard; 2 upper side rails; 2 lower side rails. The upper side rails have high sides to prevent the toddler from rolling off during their sleep. The lower rails are only mattress high allowing our child to get in and out easily.
The plastic parts slip into pre-formed groves where the head and footboards attached to the side rails. There is also a pre-formed pin or knob at the bottom of each rail that slips into a matching hole on the head/footboards. The wooden slats slip into pre-formed notches on the inside of each side rail equally spaced apart. These boards lay in place on one side of the rail and "snap" in place on the opposite side preventing the boards from popping or slipping out. This applies to the two upper and two lower boards. The middle board has pre-drilled holes in each end and lays in pre-formed grooves exactly where the upper and lower side rails are joined. The siderails, upon joining have a pre-formed "peg" that enters through these holes preventing that middle slat from moving in any direction. The upper and lower side rails are joined by a type of "z" grove. All joints seem to me very secure and reliable. I suspect that disassembly may be difficult because once the pieces are finally snapped in place, they have a sort of plastic "barb" that is designed to prevent pieces from backing out or off.
All of the plastic sides and 'edges' are rounded and smooth which we like, helping to minimize any bumps or falls on or around the bed. The portions of the bed visible (head/footboard, sides) have decorative groves molded into them, looking very "New England". The back sides and insides have round, molded depressions in them. No sharp corners, angles, no lose cracks or seems to get fingers stuck in. Very solid and tight fitting.
Our little girl bounces on the mattress, runs and jumps into the bed, kicks and moves the bed. So far it's holding up just great! This bed will allow her to have more playing space in her room and still be comfortable in her bed.
We are very pleased.
