stephs69camaro's Full Review: Graco Doubletray Highchair
4 years ago I bought the Evenflo Phases highchair, thinking that I would never have to buy another high chair again. Unfortunalty, that was not the case. You try telling your toddler that they have to give up their "desk" and chair so baby can eat... that wont go over well.
I went to Babies R Us in complete awe. Baby stuff has changed over the last few year and all these new "features" are pretty impressive.
There was only a few options to chose from at my local store and the fabric on the Graco DoubleTray Highchair is the first thing that caught my eye. It had a decent price tag (mid-range), and was for infant through 3 year of age (or 37 pounds), so I decided to purchase it.
The features include:
6 height adjustments and 3 recline positions . You can also remove the tray for your toddler to sit at the table. This allows you to use the chair for your infant through toddler years, and makes it easier to put at your table level for family eating.
Nice cloth cover with vinyl cover underneath . My cover is called "Princeton Plaid". It is a dark blue and dark yellow plaid that will hide stains nicely. It is fully washable, and has a vinyl underpad to protect the seat. My only concern is because of the dark colors that some fading might occur in the future.
Folds for storage . This seat does fold up for storage, but don't hold your breath. It is STILL bulky after folding!
Two trays . The Graco DoubleTray comes with a small snack tray and a large wrap around tray for meal time. The large tray has molded compartments where you can put sippy cups, baby food jars, rags, etc.. It is very nice, but harder to clean due to its size.
One hand tray adjustment . The tray can be adjuster back and forth with the press of one button. It is only one handed without baby in hand or after you get the hang of it. Still, quite easy to use. You do have to use the two side levers to actually remove the tray.
Safety . This highchair, along with many on the market today has a 5-point belt rather than the "older" 3 point versions. This helps keep baby in the seat and safe. The molded T bar also helps baby from slipping out the bottom of the seat. Sounds absurd that a baby could slip out, but yes, it does happen. The legs on this highchair are sturdy and this highchair would be very hard to tip over.
Towel Bar . this highchair has a (massive) towel bar on the back of the seat for quick clean-ups.
My Concerns:
Wobbly . The legs are very sturdy so I feel the seat is safe, but the actual chair part is quite wobbly. It causes the seat to come easily out of position if you grab it by the top of the seat. In other words, DO NOT try moving the seat while baby is inside.
Changing positions . It is not as easy as the box implys. It is not horrribly hard, but not incredibly easy either.
Storage, and Movement . Like I said above, the chair is still bulky after folding, so you might as well leave it up, and wheels would have been nice too, espcially since if you try to scoot it closer to you, you risk changing the recline postition.
Overall I do recommend the seat. I belieive it is safe and a good value for your money.
