Graco Easy Highchair Is A Great, Durable HighChair For The Price
Written: Mar 07 '01 (Updated Oct 19 '03)
Pros:Inexpensive, durable safety strap and T-bar.
Cons:Some were recalled for faulty legs, seat cover rips easily.
The Bottom Line: Serves it purpose in giving your baby a safe place to eat with the family.
I got the Graco Easy Chair Highchair as a baby shower gift, from my mother and sister. Even though I wanted one that reclined back, this one does the job of feeding my daughter just perfectly.
The Graco Highchair is easy to assemble, and no tools are needed. The seat is already put together; you just have to put the seat cover on. There are 8 metal bars for the legs, you put two of them together and attach them to the plastic part that extends from the bottom sides of the seat. When the legs are in place you will hear a clicking sounds once the push button screws are in place. There are four plastic pieces you attach to the bottom of the legs giving it a smooth surface for it wont scratch your floors up. Then just add the footrest and you are all set to feed your little one. It took my husband all of 5 minutes to put the highchair together. Its also very easy to disassemble. When Jordan stayed the night at my parents house, I had to take it apart so it would fit in my car.
The tray is made out of a durable, hard white, smooth plastic. On the front of the tray, in blue letters the word Graco is imprinted. The surface area is a good size to put a plate and cup, and still have plenty of room left, for those kids who like to knock things over or finger paint with their food. The sides of tray slope up a few inches, this making it harder for food to fall on the floor. The tray snaps on easy to the seat and stays on securely. There are 3 different adjustments for the tray. You can have it close to your child, and as they grow the tray can be moved father away from their body. What I like about the tray is you can have a baby in one arm and with your free hand you can easily remove the tray. Some highchairs you need two hands to remove the tray to get your child in the seat. The tray is easy to keep clean with a damp cloth.
The seat is made out of a durable, hard white, smooth plastic. I like that the seat surrounds your baby, with no open sides. This helps your baby feel more secure. Its also great for when your baby gets older, and they love to move around in the chair. The seat is also deep, so it keeps your baby more secure. The back of the seat is high, so it gives your baby more room to lean back and relax. Its roomy enough for even the squirmiest of babies to have room to move in and room to spare. I cant say for myself if its comfortable to sit in, but Jordan doesnt seem to mind. There is a plastic seat cover that you can put over the seat to give your baby a more comfortable place to sit. The seat covers come in many different colors and patterns. The seat covering is not that sturdy, so it does rip easily. Mine only has a few rips in it after 13 months of use and one squirmy baby. The seat and seat cover are easy to keep clean with a damp cloth.
To secure your baby in the seat, use the sturdy straps. They lock in place so you know its fastened. To release the straps, push a small tab on the front. As your child groups the straps are adjustable. I like the T- bar feature. The T-bar is a 2 to 3 inch thick piece of durable plastic, placed in the middle of the seat, in front to keep your baby more secure. You put one leg on each side of the bar for they can't slip out of the seat. There is plenty of space for there legs to move around and scraping their legs up when you take them out.
The legs are made of a durable white metal. They are spaced far apart, and slant slightly outward, offering more support to the highchair. There is a sturdy white bar attached to the back of the seat to place bibs and towels for easy access. When your babys feet can reach, there is a foot bar to rest their feet on. The foot bar is secure and made out of durable, white hard plastic.
When it came time to feed Jordan for the first time, I felt secure in the fact she was in a safe, sturdy highchair. I liked the fact she felt safe herself because of the T-bar, wrap around seat and safety strap. After using the highchair from the time Jordan was 4-months old and up to a few weeks ago, its held up great. The chair is still in great shape, except for a few rips in the seat cover and a few stains that wont come off the tray. Ill cherish the first feeding Jordan had in the chair forever and the many times when I was feeding her, she would lay her head down on the tray.
The Graco Easy Chair Highchair stood up to everything my baby could do to it. It served its purpose as a durable, sturdy, inexpensive highchair to feed my daughter in. I would recommend any of the Graco Easy Highchairs manufactured after January 1998 to anyone with a baby in the family.
Some of the Graco Easy Highchairs were recalled for faulty legs, causing many injuries when the legs gave way. For more information about the recalled highchairs
call the Graco Recall Hotline at (800) 617-7447, and receive a free repair kit.
The model and serial numbers of the Graco highchairs are located on a sticker beneath the seat. The model number contains "3170," "36051" or "74001" within it. The first six numbers in the serial number indicate the date of manufacture. The recalled highchairs were manufactured from January 1, 1995 through December 8, 1997. Ones with push button screws on the legs were not recalled.
Mine wasn't one of the recalled ones (mine was manufactured in January 99). If you have one of the recalled ones at home, call to get the repair kit ASAP!
