| jack783's Full Review: Graco Family Listen 'N Talk Plus Baby Monitor 2780 |
We got this Listen 'n Talk as a baby shower present. The product itself is pretty good--it has two receivers, plus you can talk to both the baby and to the other receiver if you want to (we have never used this feature). It transmits the baby's sound pretty clearly, and it has an LED light which shows when noise is being transmitted (in case the volume is set low. But the big problem with this product is the static. It is a 900 mhz model which supposedly makes it better but that does not help. We have used it in both an apartment in a big building and in a house in the middle of nowhere. In both places, we get a LOT of static--so much that it's hard for us to sleep. In my opinion, this product is unusable. We purchased a Safety 1st monitor, whose model I can't remember (also with two receivers). In both the city apartment and the country house, it is very clear with no static or interference, and I don't think it's even 900 mhz. Graco makes some very good products but baby monitors are not one of them. I noticed that the Listen 'n Talk is not on Graco's website anymore, which makes me wonder if they discontinued them--I hope so.
Update on May 17, 2004:
Thanks to marybatson's comments, I am providing the following additional information:
- The receivers take 9 volt batteries, one per receiver.
- The monitor is sensitive and picks up sound well enough that you can still hear over the static. In fact, it can be so loud enough that some might think the volume can't be turned low enough. You would never turn the volume to full; the static would be unbearable.
- The receivers have clips on the back so they can be worn on a belt.
- I did not check distance, so I don't know what the range is.
- There is no interference with either a 900 mhz or 1.2 ghz phone as far as I can tell. We have used both types of phone around the monitor, and have also unplugged the phones, to see if it affects either the phone or the monitor. No difference.
